Pretty enjoyable game, even if the bad guys won.

Meh I thought the exact opposite. I just couldn't get into it especially after all the hype.

actually not that sad that we lost. we played a pretty good game without 2 of our best players and only lost 1-0 with a goal called back.
Yeah me neither. We've been winning a lot lately and still first in the west, third overall. That definitely helps. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
And that disallowed goal was pretty legit too. Hard to argue that the goalie WASN'T interfered with.

Bennett is dumb as nails, like literally no hockey IQ, I'm unsure why he was so coveted as a high draft pick. Neal is slow as molasses and is routinely beat with or without the puck. Compared to our top 5 forwards (Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Backlund, Tkachuk) these guys are nowhere close.
Lol, there is a hot take....This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
"If only everyone on the team was capable of a PPG pace! Useless otherwise"
Both Bennett and Neal have been effective, they're not lighting the lamp, but they are doing other things.
That said Neal does need to get going, he is paid as a 20+ goal scorer and needs to produce as such.
He's not wrong. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Bennett plays a pretty dumb game on most nights and Neal is slower then Jagr last season.
I actually don't mind Bennett's game at all (unless you're stuck on the fact he was a 4OA selction...)This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
He will never be a 20-30 goal scorer, but he is a hard nosed, tough to play against 20-30pt 3rd liner who will likely sign long term at 2-2.5m/year. Every team needs those players.
I am moreso commenting on the "These guys are nowhere close" comment.
agree to disagree i guess?
i would put frolik, hathaway and jankowski ahead of those two without much difficulty. a #4 pick barely a 3rd liner, has difficulty exiting and entering a zone consistently, kinda odd right. aside from the given 2 absolutely pointless penalties he seems to get nearly each game, his one play yesterday in full attack, deking players out and crashing at full speed into the goaltender just summed it up for me.
I agree with this. Up until the start of this season, I was pretty set on accepting Bennett as a bust, but this season he's really impressed me and I don't really have anything bad to say about him now that I've gotten passed the fact that he was supposed to be this amazing player scoring forward we got at 4OA. Now that he's kinda found a role, he can be pretty good as long as you're not expecting him to be a scorer. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Remember, it wasn't that long ago people were touting Backlund as the future franchise centre for Iggy and he ended up nothing like that, but he still plays a very important role on our roster and as we've seen the last couple of games, the team really needs him when he's out of the lineup.
Frolik and BORDERLINE Jankowski sure, Sam is miles better than Hathaway, however Hathaway is succeeding in his ROLE.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There are countless high end draft picks who bust all the time.. Sam was a consensus top 4 pick and some had him as high as #1, his scoring in Junior unfortunately hasn't translated to the NHL YET. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, but that doesn't mean he isn't a solid NHL player.
"Fans" of this team need to give Sam some time. Much the same way it took Backlund 7 years in the NHL to become an effective NHL player. Sam is in his fourth and is on pace to match his career high in points. The argument can easily be made that the Flames rushed him too fast. Sam should have spent a year or two in the AHL, especially after losing a year of development due to his shoulder surgery.

Bennett is fine. If he was a fifth round pick everyone would be impressed.

Hey I agree that Bennett has played a lot better this season then last year... however last nights game was a perfect flashback to his bonehead plays and dumb penalties all over again.
And Bennett was taken 4th overall and this franchises highest draft pick ever. If we're at the point of calling him a third line 20-30 point player then it's official. He's a flop lol.
His foundation is a 20-30 pt third liner, he can always improve! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Conversely, we picked a player who will likely end up top 5 in all times flames points in the fourth round...
Draft position is a terrible way to rate players. Salary is much more reasonable. Bennett is decent value for his cost.

Holy shit, what a come back in the third!
What a game!.... Big Save Dave comes up big in OT.
That one goal that Smith let in was quite possibly the worst goal I have ever seen in my life.
One more note... There's no doubt in my mind that Johnny will one day play for Philly
One note note... At what point do we give up on Neal? This guy literally sticks out like a sore thumb with how awfully slow he is.

Wow, crazy game. There must've been a ton of people that left early and missed out on that epic come back though.
