Default I'm in Tokyo for the weekend - what to do?

I have Fri aft, all Sat, all Sun. I'm thinking:
Sat early AM - Fish market

    Other ideas:
    • Hot springs.
    • Car show?
    • Find a sumo match if there's one.
    • Ramen. Sushi.
    • I'm willing to take a train somewhere.

Btw, I just came from a few days in Xi'an, China. I may have been the only white person there. Loved the city compared to Beijing. But holy cow, the people in Tokyo are so polite.

There's so much to do in Tokyo I'm not even sure where to begin with suggestions!!

    Which area are you staying?

I'm actually in Fuji now and headed to Tokyo (Asakusa area) tomorrow AM and then flying out early Sunday.

We had conveyor belt sushi at Toriton the other night in Tokyo Skytree and thought it was good for the price. The sumo tournament was on last month so I don't think there's anything happening in Tokyo now but you can go to the stables to watch if you want.

Not aware of any car shows happening. Ramen joints are everywhere and easy to find. Even the places where you just buy tickets from the machines are pretty good (fast food style). You should try Japanese curry too - delicious! I've also fallen in love with Soba noodles.

I'm not sure if the fish market is worth it to be honest but I haven't been for a decade. My girlfriend is talking about going Saturday AM as well (Spanish gal in case you see her) but it's too early for me to bother.

I'm at the Sheraton Miyako Hotel. I'm not sure what area this is.
Thanks for the belt sushi and japanese curry suggestion! Sounds like I can't go wrong with any ramen.
    I'll look up sushi stables.

Have you been to the robot restaurant?

    *sumo stables haha.

I haven't been to the robot restaurant but heard it was good fun. A bit pricey but sounds like one of those YOLO things so probably worth it. We were even considering it tomorrow or Saturday night but depends on how the day goes.

go here. Pricing is normal. But you have to line up and maybe even line up early. We were there an hour before open to eat first.

Bring cash as you have to buy tickets from a machine. We were there in March. It was worth the wait.

Take the money you are thinking about spending on the Robot Restaurant and hit MariCar #1. Nearly the same price, except you get to see Tokyo from a go-cart! Just got back from 2 weeks in Japan in May. MariCar was the highlight.

You'll need international drivers license though..

If you’re a “car guy” then check out a Super Autobacs for sure. There’s usually a bunch of sweet cars parked out front too. Stuff that we think is amazing here (think Mine’s R34) just parked out front while the guy runs inside. Super cool.

Menya Musashi is the best Tsukemen ramen I've ever had - Ichiran (chain) is also very good and easy to find practically anywhere.

I love just walking around Harajuku and people watching - great area for the weirdos and shopping lol

YES! Harajuku is great. There's a great park there too. Another area to check out at night is Akihabara. It's really weird, but something to see. It's the electronic district and you'll see people in costumes, crazy arcades, neat electronics shops.

benyl, thanks for the food suggestions. Looks cool, and only 10 seats.
The maricar tour looks amazing and right up my alley. I don't have a int drivers license though. It seems i need to get one before leaving canada from AMA. I'll see if I can get one from them remotely.

Harajuku and Akihabara sound fun too. Thanks y'all!

Just did a virtual tour of your hotel. They really have a hate on for people with tattoos, at least in the health center they do. There are signs saying if you have tattoos you may not be allowed in.

Didn't make it to Super Autobacs because I was worried about finding a taxi back, since it's not in a taxi area,
Went to Sakura-dori street. Lots to see, guys trying to drag you into strippers (passed), and a cool cave bar where I met a 23yr old Japanese fellow who hitchhiked from Vancouver to Yellowknife. He had lots of stories.

Couldn't get the mariotour because no international license, so went to the robot show. It was worth it.

Also went to Harajuku. Also interesting. Lost of Stussy/vintage clothes, interesting people watching, crepes. And owl petting.

I took the train to the Super Autobacs near Haneda / waterfront area. Was about 15-20 min walk from the train station and I saw some sick shit there. Looks like you had fun regardless.

Good call my buddies got robbed in one of those place maybe drugged too. Sober buddy got strong armed by the bouncers into singing an outrageously overcharged bill. Luckily for him visa flagged it right away as off.

Word. I was warned of that too. The guys who tried to pull me in were from Ghana. Glad I passed.

Left Japan and visiting DisneySea for some rides. Went to Seoul, took a 2hr train to a meeting in Daego, KR, yesterday. Finally tried some Korean BBQ, was great. Today took a 1hr flight to another meeting in Ulsan, KR.
It seems the people here work 12+hr per day and only get the weekends off, even business professionals. The Govt wants to spread people out away from Seoul so they build these cities all over the country side with tall condo buildings that I bet hold 100,000 ppl. The govt forced the O&G companies away from Seoul to decentralize the people and businesses. Many families live in different cities for work and only see each other on the weekend. Some of the ppl here love Trump. They don't like China. Lots of knock off brand clothing here in Korea.

My hotel has SO many whiskies/scotch.
