Default I Spy....The New Toyota Supra?

So I'm not sure if you guys had heard the news but apparently there has been spy photos of the new Toyota Supra. My Instagram timeline/feed has been flooded with these pictures as of this morning.

Did a bit of research and found a few sites that had pictures and some information that they are claiming.

Jalopnik stated that it looks like a production ready FT-1, a big brother to the current 86. The spy car has dual exhaust which rumours to be a V6 instead of an inline 6 engine

Car & Driver states that it will be a 2019 vehicle. They think the platform would be a Toyota/BMW collab engine to which Toyota will get a new Supra while BMW will get the Z5. Powertrain wise, Car & Drive believes it will be an inline 4 and inline 6 while a higher trim model will have a 400hp V6 engine. The new supra competitors will be Audi TT, BMW Z5, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Ford Mustang, Porsche 718 Cayman. Basically all relatively affordable performance sports coupes. They also think it will have a starting price tag of $40,000

Autoblog states that the 5th gen (Mark V) Supra has some characteristics from the FT-1. They think its going be a RWD and a Toyota/BMW collab engine in which Toyota will have the Supra while BMW will get the Z5. Autoblog says that the new cart will be available on 2019 with a powertrain line up of 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder and Lexus' rumoured supplying twin turbo V6

Photo album can be found here

Here's the catch (sort of), everyone is claiming that this spy car is the new Toyota Supra but Toyota hasn't said anything about it yet.

The new Supra is most likely the BMW Z4 shared platform car. The FT-1 would likely be a Lexus sports car using the LC500 platform. That's based on all the research I've done since the release.

edit - forgot to mention there is also rumors that Toyota will be using a performance hybrid drivetrain in their version of the car, similar to the NSX, P1, 918, La Ferrari, etc. Should be the first sports car to get this trickled down.

It shares a bit of the profile on the side nose, roof and such as the FT1, but its looking like a much bigger departure from the FT1 than I was hoping for based on the old vids like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO0T-eb1jrI

Hopefully it gets more exciting with the camo off when you can see the aero styling better. If they are putting more of the FT1 into the lexus side like Rage says, I can be happy with that.

I will say that the numbers/style on the gauges on the dash photos look very BMW to me.

apparently the spotted mule had BMW switchgear and steering wheel. Likely not what will make it in the production version

Not sure, but I thought the swirly vinyl was copyright to BMW. So, this could be the joint venture car between them, however, with it being so early in the testing mule phase it is hard to tell anything more than just overall profile.

I hope it looks way better without the skin... so far I'm not terribly crazy about the profile/body lines, looks a bit dated already? I'm not sure about the rear, the taillights look like they're photoshoped on. The front end is too covered to make any judgement, curious about the odd bulge in the middle though.

Hope this car turns out, has potential on paper to be a great thing.

Seems like they nerf'd the concept too much.

Looks like the mule is built off an oddly warped Z4 Coupe platform... not FRS

I see no resemblance to the FT1 concept whatsoever. The mule is too small. Seems more like a smaller, downmarket car that might hang around, say, the Alfa 4C price point

As said a few times, it looks more like the next gen version of the 86 rather than Toyota's flagship sports car, it seems too small to be hailed as the next Supra but who knows.

Hopefully there'll be some Ring footage of it and we can hear what kind of noise this thing makes.

I'll be really interested to see how this turns out.

There is almost no way this can live up to the previous gen, IMO.

^ They dont care about previous gen, they are thinking Millennials who have no idea what the car was all about and they can start fresh.

    BUMP:

New Supra is going to debut next week. Because it is based on the Z4, they had to allow BMW to debut their version of the car first. Now that this courtesy is out of the way they can finally show it off without all the camo.

Also, they crashed it at the Ring yesterday:
    https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...ng-on-the-ring

Sounds like 3 engine options... the most powerful is unconfirmed and expected to be some sort of hybrid, then a BMW inline 6 producing 335hp, and then a 2.0L (also from BMW) that makes around 260hp

Will be RWD, probably no manual option, will weigh in at around 3300lbs

For reference, this is the new Z4. It is supposed to go 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds, so the Supra should be a tad slower on paper.

These guys are saying sub four. If that’s the case then it’s a winner and can sell for 70-80k lol.

So nothing has changed since the rumors 2 years ago. I’m ok with that.

How is it not worthy of the Supra name? Not like the Supra was a beast from the factory. I’m sure they’ll have an orange one in the next FnF movie for product placement haha.
