We were looking at Dysons about 3 years ago but the sales guy did a few side by side demos with a bunch of models and ended up going with a Miele S6 Continuum instead (Vacuum Store on centre street North is great btw). It also helped that they had a promotion doubling the standard 5 year warranty to 10 years.

That said, our next vacuum we'll probably be looking into something cordless for convenience... will see what's available at that point but i've heard good things about the cordless Dysons.

we bought a shark 4 years ago. still works well in a house with a large-fined haired dog that sheds. I could buy another one in a year or two, get over ten years of vacuuming and still spend 2/3's of what a dyson cost.
Not that this has anything to do with you personally but brings up a continuing problem in today's society and why there's so much shit in the landfill.

lol yeah definitely a niche store...seem to be more focused on commercial stuff vs consumer but nice to actually hold and use the vacuums and compare in person instead of relying purely on pictures/reviews. Pricing was good too... was able to work out a fair deal with extra bags/filters. Can't say i've stepped foot in there since though. Ordered a replacement hepa filter and bags online since then.

I've had my Dyson DC43 for 5 years now and the only thing that has broken on it is the brush head from the missus hair and it had weak suction due to the massive amount of dog hair in the filters.
Youtube helped me figure out what the issue was and I ended up breaking a clip, Dyson sent me all the parts to repair it myself for free. I bought this model refurbished as well.

Anyone know of a type of beater brush that doesn't get clogged with hair? Like something with a different design? Between wife and two daughters, it's hair central here.

This might hit the spot for smaller cleaning jobs, my wife's blonde hairs show up like crazy when looking through our open stairs, I'm tempted to grab one of these just for stair vacuuming.

Ugh, I hate those air powered head attachments. Weakens the shit out of the actual vacuuming.

Also as soon as they hit the slightest bit of resistance they stop - same with those suction powered carpet brushes.

hmmmm very tempting............. only $200 for a cordless dyson? do you know if they put in brand new batteries on refurbs? that would be the main thing i'd be worried about on a refurb.

Just got my refurb V8 from their ebay store yesterday, looks brand new not a scratch on it. We'll see how it holds up but I'm happy with it out of the box.

Ya we just took it apart and cleaned everything so we will try it and I'll report back, whether I need a new one or not.
