My 7 year old Dyson is pretty much done, so my wife is looking for a good all around, ie: vinyl and carpet flooring vacuum. Doesnt have to be Dyson, but something decently lightweight and not crazy expensive either.
What do your wives use?

This might be worth reading. There was a Reddit AMA's with a vacuum repair guy.
He had some interesting insights to share and consider when purchasing vacuum cleaner.

Miele.
Will fuck off, again.
eBay Dyson refurbs are 20% off (for idk how long)

Sounds like the difference is 1yr warranty vs 2 from the new ones.
Shark Navigator
Dyson parts are fairly available, I've fixed 2 of ours, might be worth a try.
Otherwise I hear Shark are very similar for less $
As far as fixing, I dont know what I would need. Doesnt stuck like it used to and it definitely needs a new hose, so ya I'm not opposed to that if I can figure out what it needs.
You can get hoses by calling Dyson customer service and for the loss of suction make sure you check your filters. If they haven't been cleaned in a while that will do it.

What model is it? It’s probably an easy fix, my hose split from being 10 years old and I simply cut 6 inches off it and re-attached. New hoses are available. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'd get a central vac with in-wall retractable hoses. Put in a toekick vacuum in the kitchen and mudrooms.
If you're going to get a Miele, get a model with the SEB-228 powerhead. You're almost better off buying a C1 hard floor model and the powerhead separately. The SEB-217 powerhead is next to useless on any carpet that has any pile at all.
While I hate how much they cost, the damn things suck so hard, they actually pull my carpeting up a bit.
Mom was at a repair shop looking for a part on her Kenmore vaccuum, stupid expensive part for what it was but at least available. The repair person showed her how many Dysons he had in there, almost all of them. The repair person really endorsed the Kenmore she had and told her to hang onto it, or get a Miele if you can spend the bucks.

The top end dysons are pretty good machines. Problem most people buy the ones that are 75 bucks on sale on Black Friday
It’s like kitchenaid mixers, not all created equal thats for sure.
As for Miele, once you are that baller are you really cleaning your own house?

What planet are you on? Dysons are very expensive. Even the cheap ones. Their fucking dustbuster is $189 at Costco.

So if you need parts, that's what you need to look for.
Cheers!

I’ve run a Eureka “AirSpeed” for years. Got it at Walmart. Never had an issue, but parts are readily available and cheap, especially things like filters and belts. It’s marketed to suck better than a Dyson and I believe it. It’ll pull the carpet up off the underlay haha!
I paid less than $200 regular price. London Drugs has them too I think.

Haha my parents kitchen is all Miele appliances, but my mom probably won't hire a housekeeper until the day she dies. To each their own. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
@OP, +1 for central vac. Seems like a ridiculous suggestion if your house isn't already plumbed for it, but if you're gonna live in that place for a number of years to come, it's money well spent.
We used to have central vac, hated it. It’s certainly not for everyone. Feel like that was a trend that died in the 90’s ad early 00’s?
Also very jelly of the Miele kitchen

Miele canister with bags will be our next vacuum once the Dyson dies. My sister has one, and it's so much better than our canister Dyson.
