Looking around
Wondering what became
Of what I once knew
Have been thinking about making this drive, is it still okay to do? I usually do 1A between Banff and Lake Louise, but never driven 1A from Calgary to anything past Cochrane. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Haven’t been on it for nearly a decade. It was starting to fall apart with random deadly potholes last time I was on it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Assuming road is still in decent shape, my advice is to ensure you have solid brakes and tires for the conditions, and leave room for margin of error. There are a lot of blind corners, and I’ve encountered random cows in the worst spots that’s really tested my brakes, reaction time, and car control. By my last runs, I actually ran it with my helmet on just in case in my later years.
Also, don’t go when there’s traffic. Early early morning is the best time, but it’s slippery. Night time is downright suicidal, but if you have the balls, by all means it’s quite an experience. I’m glad I’ve done it a couple times, but that was when I was young and stupid. I wouldn’t even think of attempting that again.

I believe that drive was the closest I’ve come to death on the 1A. Wouldn’t even had the chance to feel guilty taking you out with me.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Still no clue how we survived that day and kept the car on the road.

I have never driven it quite that fast. I did it a couple of times in my old V12 Jag and definitely "bent" the speed laws, but that's not really a sports car. Now-a-days, I just drive about 100kph and enjoy the scenerey and cheat the corners. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yeah, 1A is fine, just potholes. The smaller gravel local roads through the reserve are not.

The section between Ghost and Banff is where I used to take my Mustang to cane on it. Last time I was thru there I rounded one of those blind corners and there was an RCMP waiting. I blamed it on the other 7500RPM notchback "back there a couple kms"This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
