LOL all those fools trying to get awesome deals on Shaw 300 and here I'll be upgraded from 150 to 300 for free and only pay $75/month
LOL all those fools paying 90% of what I pay for only 50% of the speeds.

It also gives you unlimited downloads with no cap - I believe the slower services still have caps unless that changed recently. Shaw never really enforced them though.
My Telus limit is capped at 200 GB and they do charge you now for going over, found out the hard way once. Well I wasn't over by much but it was kinda foul how they didn't enforce it forever then suddenly dropped the hammer.

Yeah I have heard that Telus enforces caps - back in the day that was one of the big reasons I did not entertain the idea of switching to them. Especially since some months you might be over and others you are probably way under, and they don't take that into account, they just bill you for it.

God I wish I was back in the city. At least I can stream 1080p on the ol' Telus cell-based LTE modem

Grape vine rumor is stating that all BB150 customers and BB300 customers are going to get double the download speed for free very soon.

So thats BB300, and BB600 Packages.

By grapevine, do you mean the post two pages ago that had a link directly to Shaw's announcement?

For those like me that still rock the Cisco 3848 modem, it will support the current Internet 150(soon to be 300) with just a power cycle. Going to need the XB6 with the extra channels to support the new Internet 600.

Just found out that with the latest firmware update, the Hitron 2250 modem does 5G band steering. Even though it’s only Docsis 3.0 it at least has 4 Ethernet ports unlike their piece of shit new modem which has two disabled.

Heh, I've never seen anything like this before in the world of ISPs. I thought it was a joke post created by some tard what with the "newsroom" in the address, and went to Shaw's site immediately expecting to confirm there was nothing to this. Shocked to see they have it advertised. Great move by Shaw, I may disconnect my Sasktel Fiber now at our SK home, and just keep the BB300 which will be 600 now we have there, and keep the BB300/600 as our only connex at our Calgary home.

I wonder how much of a sales blast Shaw will launch with this offer, I could see them grabbing a bit of market share with it, that's a pretty powerful sale and marketing tool IMO - hi, how would you like 2x the speed for the same cost? One thing is for sure it'll force the competition to adjust pricing if nothing else, and likely speeds as well.

Good Xmas gift IMO, 600 will be good times for lots of new Steam xmas downloads.

I had SO much trouble with Shaw for years in Calgary, had a condo on 14th Street and Northmount where ping times and stability were horrendus, then a new home in Cranston with the same circa 2003 or so. I worked part time for Telus for a short while, and got approved for their IPTV testing back then, and got 10ms ping times to all my favorite servers on that Stinger they set up for that in Cranston with a 10mbit connex which I thought was heaven back then, which they forgot about when I quit and I kept for 2 years after leaving Telus. Shaw was awful again out in Bearspaw, like terrible.

But now, many years later, I've been very, very impressed with the level of service and consistent speed/pings with Shaw both in SK and Calgary. No complaints at all. Maybe I'm just lucky with location in both places now, I've read about others having similar problems to what I used to have, but if Shaw is saying they can double everyone's speed now, maybe they've done some upgrades (?? maybe ??, anyone know?).

Those top two ports on the XB6 are disabled phone ports (for VOIP). Just buy a 5 port gigabit switch... they're like $20 now or your own router.

    Sweet!

    Sweet!

^this is the right answer, you should be using your own router anyways so only need one Ethernet port coming off the modem.

That being said, I’ve heard through coworkers that the XB6 as a WiFi router is actually decent so props for that I guess.

Not at home, so I can't power cycle, but I remoted into my machine and got a glorious 5/12.

I think the port on my router might be having issues.

Edit: Rebooted, came back to this:

Shaw's hardware is nothing special, get that thing in bridge mode and buy a good router - you can get all the ports you want, better WiFi, etc.
