He's actually mostly right wing. Complains about his high taxes and how less wealthy people should pay more taxes.
Uh... Are we talking about the same person here? Maybe I've missed these comments from him.

But his overall slant is certainly left in regards to governance. Your preference for taxation is not what defines your politics, and it certainly does not stop one from being hypocritical about the subject either.

There's really no way to have social welfare without progressive taxation (and a large heap of regressive taxation). Anybody that thinks otherwise is a fucking moron.

I never said otherwise either Just said if you are calling him out for being that way, you either have the wrong person, or he is being very hypocritical in his societal desires vs what it takes to get them. You were the one who claimed he (kert) was right wing, you have provided no substance to back that up.

Yes, he's a moron and a hypocrite, but he's acting in his own best interest. He wants to pay less taxes and have fancy public facilities.

Default We asked for it, we got it - Driver's Licencing road test are being re-regulated

The driver testing thing is moving back to gov.

Does this actually reduce the number of shitty untrained drivers?

Holy crap. Except now there will be an exemption for status victims (female, brown, gay, etc), because they'll have to meet diversity requirements for passing people

Unless they re-test everyone to a new standard including all the soccer moms, seniors, etc. I can't see it really doing anything at all to help the current driving situation in Calgary. I would GLADLY take a new driver's test to be part of the improvement process, even if I had to pay for it, if it meant everyone else did.

New, young drivers are not the problem IMO, at least based on my observations of unsafe drivers. You get the odd douche doing a burnout or something but every person I have ever seen obstructing traffic, stopped in merge lanes, 'enforcing' speed limits in the left lane, holding up traffic for 5 min while they parallel park 50 times, no signalling, etc. don't seem to ever be what I would picture as a new driver.

Every time I come home from vacation, one of the things that always stands out to me the most is how bad drivers are here compared to almost everywhere else - even places that are organized chaos are at least skilled and generally courteous.

A motorcycle road test that costs $22 in Saskatchewan and $20 in Prince Edward Island costs an average of $145 in Alberta.
    Geezus.

Other province costs are most likely buried elsewhere.

200,000 net migrants per year to Canada.

    400,000 babies born each year.

This testing will have immediate affects on immigrants who have no f'ing clue how to drive being kept off the roads. Of course, the testing won't actually do that, but its nice to dream.

Default We asked for it, we got it - Driver's Licencing road test are being re-regulated

So, the Alberta government has re-regulated the licencing road testing, and brought it back under government control.

    https://globalnews.ca/news/4508487/a...tests-changes/

However, the GLARING problem, is they want to rehire all the private road testers to now work for the government. The problem is that so many of them appear to be corrupt and pass out licenses willy-nilly or for a bribe. (I am just saying what we are all thinking)

Great move. Shouldn't be hard to weed out the illegal testers.

Doesn't solve anything as the content of the exams is staying the same. Just moves it from incompetent private examiners and incompetent public examiners. In this case, I believe the incompetent private examiners are actually being brought over to the public realm.

Yes please, back to that shithole DMV under Foothills hospital... So all of Calgary can go there and do their driving test in one place. And no testing on weekends - because union. 3-4 tests only per 8hr shift, any more would be uncivilized, so you'll wait 6 months for your test.

    Ugh

    1. Remove the notion from people's mindsd that their license is a "right", and take it away more easily.
    2. Penalize people more heavily for at-fault accidents. You should be paying a huge fine for a rear-end, for instance.
    3. Penalize people more for at-fault accidents during rush hour time.

    But wait....if this gets implemented.....

Like I get to keep mine right??....I would be grandfathered right??...cause if I can't buy my license from Gurpreet I don't know how I will still be able to drive....

Quality issues aside, if the only well measured problem with the current system is that the average class 5 is 2 to 3 times more expensive, at $90, than other provinces, how does a flat fee of $83 fix that? That is still 1.8 to 2.8 times more expensive.

Quality issues front and center, they could have easily implemented requirements for examiner development without bringing them in-government and providing benefits and service to remote areas that currently aren't well serviced. They could have administered all the examiner professional development for a fee and still set market pricing to reduce costs to citizens.

Larger government payrolls was the goal. Everything else is just justification.
