Doesn't solve anything as the content of the exams is staying the same. Just moves it from incompetent private examiners and incompetent public examiners. In this case, I believe the incompetent private examiners are actually being brought over to the public realm.
Currently, there is financial incentive to fail then pass you. There are instructors that are lax as long as you buy more hours of training with them. They are well known in the Chinese/Chinatown circle.

Turning them into government employee remove that financial incentives.

Unless they re-test everyone to a new standard including all the soccer moms, seniors, etc. I can't see it really doing anything at all to help the current driving situation in Calgary. I would GLADLY take a new driver's test to be part of the improvement process, even if I had to pay for it, if it meant everyone else did.

    3. Penalize people more for at-fault accidents during rush hour time.
I've been saying this for years that this is where Carbon Tax should come from

Tye government has never shown any evidence that the GDP program succeeded here in AB. I'd bet they are looking at making changes because 90% of GDl drivers think it's a cash grab and aren't upgrading. I actually wrote my MLa asking for information About the success of the program. Never heard back.
ya wont lie... im one of them... but once i didnt do it, its now at such an insane price that it makes no sense for me to do.. maybe ill outlive it by the time i renew my license next year!?

    Or Mandatory winter tires.

All the at fault or slow down I have seen is due to ill equipped vehicles.

BC mandates Oct 1st to Mar 31st to be on winters on highways. Doesn't hurt for Alberta to adopt the same, at least for the highways.

Since we're off topic anyways... how does that work for rental vehicles?

Is it bullshit like this where they charge you extra?

It won't be BS when it's the law.

This requirement also applies to rental passenger vehicles in Québec, as well as mopeds, motorized scooters and motorcycles.
Rental cost will adjust accordingly of course.

I've found rental costs out east to be no different than out west in the winter. I specifically rent cars in Quebec vs Ontario so I get winter tires for recce during races in the winter

Renting a car out here costs nothing. Renting a car in LA, yikes.

Actual test time isn't getting reduced though.

If anything, less talking and coaching will keep people off the roads if the tester gets in and says drive instead of a pep talk before and a walk-through of your mistakes after.

I encourage everyone to take the survey and provide feedback.

So make it a cash cow instead of a real coaching moment.
I like that concept of "you gotta pay to play".

I gave feedback on the survey to make this step more costly and stringent. Long term, this hopefully will reduce the amount of insurance claims. Or one can dream.
