He did, I've used him a few times. Doesn't seem to work there anymore though, his email bounces back.

Pretty sure from a friend who used 2 work there most of their commission comes from warranty...

Might as well price match it with newegg and get it cheaper..

I price match/beat every part regardless so I don't understand how it's cheaper buying elsewhere? They have gotten more stingy about it lately though. Memory Express is almost never the cheapest anymore, so without their price match I probably wouldn't buy from them.

I know they make a lot from warranties, but I believe they also get normal commission - just not sure how much it is. With the way they try to guilt you into warranties like a greasy used car salesman, it is probably the majority. Hakkola as really good to deal with, zero pressure - too bad he doesn't work there anymore.

So Matt was working there, then quit, then went back, and now quit again? What the heck.

Ya when I talked to him I think he was transitioning between Engineering jobs or something like that - was working at MemEx while he looked for a better job. Hopefully he just found that job.

I guess I don't know for sure he quit but his memex email is inactive. I don't imagine it's very lucrative working there.

    Typical margin is 6-10%.

A $2K PC at best make them $200. I don't think anyone will get commission off PC parts.

I thinks PC Parts are almost lost leader for MemX.

When I built my latest PC I dealt with Arvin. Easy guy to deal with and no BS. He was able to price match every part that I wanted to price match and wasn't pushy at all with any of the IPR when I declined.

Whenever I go to the Memex South location I try to deal with him if he's there.

The guys dont wear name tags anymore - i know some of the staff from back when they used to - is Arvin the guy with glasses and beard who wears the tool belt pouch?

I don't think he's the guy who wears the tool belt punch. He does wear glasses though and I think he's Filipino?

You use pcpartpicker.com? I used that for my build. Saved me a lot of money if you don't mind waiting for parts.

If parts are a loss leader, and PC's are just the parts I pick, how do they get any commission? I can't imagine they sell that many peripherals, mouse pads, etc.

That comission is low but at least at MemEx you would have a fairly steady flow of people buying stuff from you. I don't know how many people buy IPR either but I often hear cringe-worthy sales pitches full of scare tactics.

Yes I have been using it for as long as I can remember It's especially useful now that MemEx is never the best price, so every single part has to be price beat and it really adds up, usually $200-300 savings on a big system. Only annoying part sometimes is finding something that memory express also carries (if it isn't mainstream) unless I want to order every piece individually - usually it's not worth it for the savings but I would if it was significant. Sometimes with things like RAM you need to do your best to find an equivalent.

Anyone know someone who works at MemEx N.E? They are the only store in Calgary that has all the parts in stock for my new build.
