Should probably make a thread for this now since it's going to get interesting.
Picked up this 86 Mustang GT 5spd about 3 weeks ago. Plan is to spray it this summer and turbo it for next summer. Yes I am aware of the shortcomings of the 302 and the T5 that's bolted to it.
Did I mention it's sparkly as fuck? Someone, at some point, bombed the whole thing with a shit ton of rainbow flake clear. Like masked the windows and sprayed the body, the trim, the wiper arms, everything. It's been like this at least 10 years since that's how long the previous owner had it. No plans to change that.
The first two weeks I spent making it less terrible. Here's what I've done so far:
New water pump so you don't have to fill it with 8L of water every time to drive it. It PISSED water.
New door handles so you can get into it without having to pop the hatch and pull a string attached to the inside handle.
Adjusted throttle cable so it has 100% throttle with the pedal down instead of 30%. Actually kinda quick now.
Set ignition timing, it was missing a couple degrees of advance. Bit more power.
AC Delete and Airpump delete because they were whiny and annoying me. Compressor wasn't hooked up anyway.
Welded in H pipe because I hate the sound of "true duals".
Put on some less shitty tires. Still pretty shitty, but not potentially explode on highway shitty.
Replace brake master cylinder, because brakes are good.
Replaced plugs with one step colder in preparation for nitrous.
This week I did about half of the nitrous install. Made a tube, installed a fogger in it, installed solenoids. I made a plastic plate with a conspicuous red button for spraying, wired into the fog light switch under the dash for arming.
Taking it to a no prep strip next weekend. My guess is 15.5@90mph aspirated and 14.1@99mph with a 100 shot. If the tires weren't so shit it'd be easy 13s on spray. We'll see.
