    Default Garage epoxy floor DIY

I am looking to possibly do a DIY epoxy floor in my garage.....

    Back story:

When my garage was poured last year the contractor did a terrible job, its a wavy, bumpy mess. Working with the home builder they have agreed to grind it level and help me remove and store everything in my garage. In the process of doing this it will likely leave the floor looking a bit inconsistent as some areas will look like exposed aggregate (kind of) and others will not. I have tried to work with the builder to have the floor finished off with epoxy for a consistent look and we are still working on who would cover what cost. At the end of the day I am pretty sure they would be willing to paint it to get a consistent look and thats likely it.

Seeing how the floor will be ground level I am told most of the prep work/cost for epoxy would be finished. I made a quick call to the Garage Store and they said it would be about $3300 to finish it off. At the end of the day its a garage floor and not a show room so could I finish it off with epoxy myself? I did some searching of old posts and believe @Rat Fink had some success with this and I believe posted a thread about (which i couldn't find).

Has anyone had luck with this?

Where can I buy a "commercial' type product and not the kit you buy from Canadian Tire?

I would consider having it done for me if the price was right I guess......

    Thanks

The more I read/watch on youtube the Rustoleum product might be ok if applied correctly and with thick coats.

I know someone that bought the industrial grade products and DIY’ed. But don’t think they knew how to apply it properly so it was glops of uneven proxy and uneven surface texture.

    on sale until tomorrow
seems like an easy job if the builder has already grinded the floor. pressure wash a few times and let it dry, then roll this stuff on.

    Good find, thanks.

I believe the 100% solids is what sets this apart from the Rustoleum product. Regardless I think you would still need a clear coat over top to help protect it..... which I know Rustoleum sells.

Too bad the sale ends today, I dont want to commit to buying until I have sorted everything out with the builder!

It's Costco, buy it now and return if you don't use it.

Good point, I will read their return policy for online purchases. Would still like to find a commercial supplier....

Look at Hardrock, Unicon, or Dunrite. All are Companies that sell to professionals

What is your garage size that they quoted $3300? It seems like $5/sq ft for most quotes i got.

My garage is 24*22 I think.....

I really just made one call. Pretty certain with some digging around I could have it done for $2500 or less. There appears to be lots of people on kijiji doing it......which is why I think I can tackle it myself with the proper product.

I will be doing it myself with the Rustoleum stuff next month. I've been reading up on it and if you do that first then put on an industrial grade sealer then it should be ok.
My 22x22 garage was about $2400 so I'll try the DIY method for 300 first.

I called Terrafuse a few months ago and pricing for TF 100 Polyaspartic is $136.48/gallon good for 150sq ft, decorative flakes are $215/250sqft. Terrafuse is one of the commercial suppliers in town.

Thanks, great info. Also found a video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLx_3XbdspE

I will add them to the list, bit more money but likely worth it. I see they have options for different % solids..... for this type of product you need to have the surface ground down (like mine will be) and cannot use a acid wash. I am thinking this might be the difference between the Rustoleum product and a commercial product.

^ How did you do your Pony wall? Is it just plywood with the coating run up the side?
