Haha nice. I know someone who just started there. Go figure.
Laid off from engineering job in 2016 and have been working for slightly above minimum wage for the past 2 years. My lifestyle has changed dramatically.
Are the positions field based near deadmonton though? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The Heartland complex is in Strathcona county which is were most of the new positions will be based, but we have field ops in Sherwood Park all the way down past Lethbridge at the various stations / terminals we own, Ft McMurray, Ft McKay. We are mostly in AB, except for the Kerrobert pipeline. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
You work at the dream company, I wish. They had some PE postings up about 5-6 months ago and I used to work with a guy who got picked up there last year. He said the posting had > 1000 applications and he was personally asked for 6 internal references on it. Needless to say I didn't even get to interview stageThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Project, Power, Process, or petroleum Engineer?
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

Project sorry. I'm so used to everyone at EPC calling us PEs and usually naming Process full. Mech degree, granted funny enough i've done a chunk of process as well.

What options does an employee have when a company is unable to pay their wage for that 2 week period? Stay working and hope to be compensated, refuse to work until paid, leave and see if can go on EI?
If it's a single two week period, and you'd like to keep working there in future, suck it up.

Good luck with that. If they are at that point, they are probably just going to string you along unpaid as long as they can, then fold. It's business, they have zero interest in looking out for you. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Personally, I wouldn't go back until they paid. Or giving you a portion of the company. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Taking risk for no benefit is not worth it.
Start looking for jobs, but in the meantime... do you have anything better to do? I'd probably put in a little effort at work while actively looking for new opportunities. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Unless you can't make ends meet for another month or two without pay, then obviously EI.
Things seem to be a little bit better than I remember compared to a couple years ago. Got a couple interviews lined up right off the bat which is positive. One of which is all weekend long, I shit you not; Friday evening - Sunday evening...
Everything these days is contract. 4 month, 6 month, 1 year...barely anyone is hiring for full-time jobs when they can just string you along for as long as possible.
