laid off in 2015, found a job a few months later
laid off end of 2016, unemployed for 8-9 months. kind of my own fault, i turned down quite a few job offers because i didn't want to work in a place i didn't fully enjoy.
been working since, happy i made the decision i did but company is still going through some org changes

Contract ended Sept 2017, found an 8 month contract in Feb 2018, which I'm currently on. Looking for something starting Oct 2018.

Took a buyout in December of 2017 and decided to take a break over the winter.

    It was glorious.

Went back to work in the same industry but for a different company in May. Things are really busy, I'm part of the Engineering R&D group and the mothership is putting a significant amount of money into us to develop new products (drilling rig tubular handling equipment).

July 4 I was let go, via email/vmail from contracting firm. One week later my colleague got let go, apparently for letting me in the building. I had on the same day visited another lead on another floor. So according to some of our colleagues they let go the two most productive people and kept a less skilled person, and another that is 'useless AF'. So, big O and G are not done cutting!

From a city-wide, SMB IT support perspective - its madness out there. I have never been this busy in a 6 month stretch.

Well, we had another round at work, caught everyone off guard. My group is still whole, didn't lose anyone, but we literally can't reduce our headcount any further and maintain required staffing levels. I just forgot to post this earlier as this round happened August 1st.

My good friend was not so lucky. I am not surprised by any of this given the recent changes at the top.

Apparently Nexen is going to lay off 50% of its Calgary staff and shrink down to a satellite office this coming week, we will see if it happens

I changed jobs recently, my new company is looking to hire 400+ people for a major project that's expected to start up in 2020. Feels weird to be at a company with such a major growth planned for a change.

Well to be fair, 400 positions over 2 years doesn't mean the flood gates open all at once. I would say we are fairly steady with regular postings but the real ramp up wont be until Q3 net year, mostly starting with field ops.
Apparently my dept doubled in the last year and will double once again by the end of next year.

    That’s much longer startup date.

Well FID is this Year I thought. It’s still possible and would be just awesome for Canada. 40 billion dollar project with local sources labour.

I feel she was talking about Keyara
