Not sure there is that much value in switching, I just wouldn’t be going out and buying edges which aren’t much cheaper and much closer to EOL.

I think USG continues to have new features rolled out and it fully integrates with the UniFi controller interface.

They just aren’t developing edge anymore and are all in on UniFi.

does the cloud key integrate with the managed switches?

If they are part of the UniFi lineup then the cloud key controls everything.

You don't need a unifi switch. My USG is connected to 2 unmanaged switches (daisy chained) and everything works fine. I have no need for VLANs. You can use the second port on the USG for a second VLAN that has access to first Lan on port 1. I am too lazy to set it up. haha.

I was just thinking what are the reasons to get the managed PoE switch versus just some cheapo unmanaged switch?
It was mentioned that Unifi AP's come with a PoE adapter. Does that mean you don't need a PoE switch and can just use an unmanaged switch with the adapter to power the Unifi AP?

Killramos - Sounds like you feel you should have gotten the AC-Pro AP's versus the Lite? I am trying to figure out which one to go for.

I have the AC-Pros and they are ridiculous. Go for them.

    They come with PoE injectors.

This is where I am coming from with my feeling like I should have gone with something above the Lite's.

Above is my wired performance on my laptop

And this is 10 seconds later running on wifi, 5Ghz AC wide channels, all the bells and whistles with no QoS etc slowing it down. AC-LITE is completely saturated.

Been fighting with settings etc. to see what configuration I can do to fix this but this is as good as I can get with my AP mounted 2 rooms away ( like 25 feet and down the hallway ).

It would be nice to at least be able to saturate my shaw connection with my wifi but the Lite just seems too weak to do it...

edit: FWIW i decided to run it again in the same room as the AP. And its definitely capable, but penetrating my walls seems to really be giving it some issues.

Think i might pick up one of these for my office to fix the issue, but i feel like if i hadn't cheaped out on the AP's up front i wouldn't need it, and would probably have a better whole home network for it rather than patching holes in the coverage room by room.

I went for the UAC-AP-LR. Got 2 and they completely fill in all the dead spots I had before. 250-275 up and down. More than I need wireless. I am sure the pros could hit what I have in my sig, but I spent the extra on the USG and the cloud key. To power the cloud key, I just use a mini USB phone charger. Seems to work.

Had Asus, sucked so bad I probably couldn’t even post the word ducks without the network going down.

My issue now is speed, before it was reliability. I am comfortable with my choice.

Newer models no longer come with the injectors.

I have AC LRs and AC IWs. After I fixed them, even the AC IWs were giving me 150 Mbps.

Good thread on Reddit on the ER X vs USG. Looks like the ER X has both a faster processor and faster ram.

If anyone wants injectors I have 2 collecting dust. FF

I think they are passive only.

Man I thought I posted but guess not.

I picked up the usg last night to get going, but can't seem to get it to connect to the internet. I searched online and it's either you buy it, you plug it in and whamo you have internet or whamo you have no internet.

What should I have for the wan or dns settings? I've tried everything and I just can't get this mother fucker to connect to the internet. I'm running the new shaw 300 modem too in bridge mode.

    Thanks.

Hard to say, have you gotten in touch with UniFi suppport? They are pretty awesome.

Have you setup a LAN in site settings? I feel like that’s something you have to do. I don’t think there are any specific WAN settings you need

Try resetting it. I'm with TELUS, so I connect directly to the Fiber Modem and not through a bridged router. I did that. With the EdgeX, I had to connect to eth0 first and configure a bunch of shit first before the internet would work. I can't remember what I did with the USG, partly because I did everything through the controller software of the cloud key.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Anyone setup port forwarding?

I set up 2 port, one for RDP and one for Airvideo HD. both are stating "connection refused". Google says something about hairpin NAT, but that the setting on EdgeX, can't see it in the USG.

I am too lazy just upnp to keep games running smoothly...

I think any edge feature is technically available in USG via CLI

Finally got the USG device working yesterday, it likes googles dns servers than Shaws...anyway, lightening fast internet now!!!

Suggestions for Unifi AP's? Besides the obvious, what's the difference between the long range and lite? And how about the pro? So mant to choose from.

    TIA.

I think LR has a different antenna configuration but same speeds as light. Might be bigger as well, the community section of unifi’s site has lots of info. Way more than you probably want, I need to do some reading on placement because I think that might do me some good with mysetup
