Just a summary of what I've learned should be the position people take on the matter.
At the risk of sounding like Trump. Its about time we supported our own industries here. We spend so much money overseas putting our own jobs/future at risk. Im not a trade advisor so i know some stuff works better outsourcing but oil/lumber etc should stay within Canada. Maybe just mayyyybee we will get some refineries and really start making some profits.
I MAKE BALLER CARS MORE BALLER.....
listening to singh talk about how we shouldn't buy their own and buy it elsewhere... No fucking mention of Canadian oil. seriously what the fuck is wrong with the NDP.
I'd say it's less of an example of how we need refineries and more of an example about how great it would be if there was some sort of method that could be used to get Canadian oil to the East instead of having tankers being in Saudi oil. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Theres leadership for you. Happy to sell us their shit but boycott ours while junior continues twitter diplomacy.
Pathetic leadership we have, we should have sanctioned those assholes years ago instead of selling them military shit and the wheet board.

Shows what kind of a position the party nation wide is in.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The party base as a whole is against the increased production of oil and for an overall reduciton in the dependence on fossil fuels. So he can't really support something that makes it sound like he's championing an increase in production.
He can't just say this is a reason to get off fossil fuels so we don't have to buy it from Saudi Arabia (or anywhere else) because that wouldn't be good for a provincial NDP government
He can't say it would be great if the oil was Canadian because that would require a pipeline, which is what another provincial party is fighting against.
Really the stance would be pretty easy if Alberta didn't have an NDP majority.
This position the Trudeau government currently is taking, much better:This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Hans Blix: I'm sorry, but the UN must be firm with you. Let me see your whole palace, or else...
Kim Jong-il: (in English) Or else what?
Hans Blix: Or else we will be very, very angry with you. And we will write you a letter, telling you how angry we are.
It is definitely an over-reaction from the Saudis. Canada say shit to China all the time about their human rights record and China does not over-react to the extent that the Saudis are reacting and China has much greater influence than the Saudis. The crown prince's foreign policy is reckless and only reflects poorly on the himself and no one else. It's like dealing with someone with rage issues. We say something about them and they take it so personally that they want to kill our whole fucking family. A smart move would have been to say something really clever back that makes us look bad. They only reacting the way they did because they know it is true.

Actually that is the position the UK has told us we should have taken, instead of publicly announcing how disappointed we are. Because they can't afford to publicly display their disappointment with all the Saudi money spent in the UK, they can only write letters. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. In business, sometimes you just gotta stfu.
That's the difference right there between Harper and Trudeau. Harper treated the government like a business, Trudeau like a charity. It should be neither. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
what do you do when business and right and wrong conflict? whore out your morals and beleifs?
thats the problem with society. money wins over doing the right thing?
We need trump here. he'd put those shit stains in check if they insutled and sanctioned his country.
Yea, the 'feels' again. Who is going to pay for that? So much cheaper to buy Saudi oil off a VLCC than to (maybe) repurpose a pipeline, build pump stations, power plants, etc in a high cost low certainty jurisdiction. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yea the concept is positive but it just won't happen, why would it? TMX will move volumes to West coast US refineries, not Asia...
Edit: you know why we don't build refineries? They won't make money and if we can't even ship one product out of the country how on earth are we going to ship many different products? Is you could make money building refineries you can bet your ass we would have refineries. How is this so hard for people

Funny how they still want us to keep buying their oil after they banned our exports of wheat and barley: Row over jailed activists won't affect oil shipments to Canada
Also this: Quebecers are an oppressed minority yearning to breathe free

The Saudi's are so far disconnected from the rest of world (except financially, obviously), it's not surprising. It's not like they have to pay attention to the going on of others to gauge markets etc. Oil sells no matter what. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
