-Canada is one of the world’s worst oppressors of women

The Saudis are sure 'killing it' on the international stage.

To help with their plight - so the rest of the world can see how far they have advanced - they bombed a fucking school bus full of kids in Yemen.

I wonder what the fucking flower hat, foreign ministry will have to say about that?

Apparently we shouldn't say anything since the affairs of other countries aren't something we should be commenting on. Who cares of they blow up buses full of kids? We aren't in a place to comment because we haven't 100% fixed up our country to be 100% perfect.

At least, that's the sentiment among several people here and elsewhere as I understand it.

    Make sense?

You shouldn't even be commenting on this sentiment either until you're 100% perfect.

With regards to world affairs. stating anything on twitter, accomplishes absolutely nothing and makes you look like a whining ninny on the world stage. See: Trump.

    Money talks, and military walks.

Less talk, more action. The Americans and the Saudis are to blame for this mess.

Nothing says "this government does not lend confidence" than a country that has opposition ministers given a platform on Saudi TV - im sure the boys in blue are just readying all the roads for their eventual coming to power.

Fuck Trumpdeau, "governing" by tweet. If he wanted to make an actual statement on human rights and effect change, there were far better ways to do it. He continues to punish the taxpayer for his blunders and incompetence. What an amateur move.
hahaha, some schmo gave me a rep comment of "coward" over this post I just noticed. Very naice!

John Baird was able to successfully tweet about how Canada disagreed with KSA on this matter. Didn't result in an international incident either.

I'm a little late to this party, but I think the important part of the Venn diagram isn't earning enough attention here.

I think there are generally 4 types of nations:
    - Morally 'Progressive', and Not to be fucked with RE: Military power (USA)
    - Morally 'Progressive', cannot defend themselves (Canada)
    - Morally Deplorable, and Not to be fucked with RE: Military power or Extremist (e.g. Iran, North Korea if they had nukes; countries that pump out terrorists, like KSA, where Bin Laden came from; China and Russia are powerful but not really extremists)
    - Morally Deplorable, cannot defend themselves, might start civil / militia wars (like Rwanda, I think someone mentioned this earlier, or Cambodia, etc.)

So, I am on board with the whole moral parade thing. Canada should be an example to the world of how to engage human rights. It has mentioned we aren't perfect--this is true, and we will never be perfect. But we are part of the trendsetting group who is leading the world on human rights. We need to try. And it's generally a good thing to turn to your neighbor and say "hey man, are you with me on this morally good thing?" It's totally acceptable.

But when is it unwise to engage this type of behavior? When you're dealing with an extremist regime that has a lot of money; access to powerful technology; is known to produce terrorists; and is especially known for the place to produce the one terrorist who successfully pulled the most devastating attack that killed 3,000+ innocent people against the one country who we would rely upon to defend us. This is like turning to your neighbor when you're on the Greyhound, and he's yielding a machete, muttering incoherent things, and you try to convince him to change something about his life. It's acceptable. But unwise.

I just wanted to say Canada has a responsibility to move the world forward on morality and human rights.
But beyond that, I guess the question is, does Canada first have a responsibility to ensure it engages these activities in a way that doesn't threaten the safety of our own citizens? I think, generally speaking, calling out powerful and rich extremist nations on their bullshit is not a good survival strategy. Especially when they have sneaky ways of taking control of airplanes, and putting bombs in unsuspecting places.

We would all get pissed when Trudeau puts the interests of other nations before the interests of our own, like the India trade deal. So, why not in this instance?
