Default Recommendation for a romantic getaway?

    Hi guys,

Wife and I are having our 10 year anniversary in a few weeks and still haven't decided where to go for the weekend (leave on 23rd of Aug, come back on 26th). Something within a 3 hour or so drive from here. Anything in the mountains is out of the question due to the fires and poor air quality, is there anything else interesting? My wife keeps mentioning Saskatchewan or something in that direction, anything interesting that direction at all? Welcome all ideas. Right now we are pricing out a ranch experience, but I want to see what other options we have.

We aren't really into being romantic or anything, just something to do that's somewhat interesting.

People’s definition of romantic differs, as apparent by this post as, I wouldn’t consider anything in Saskatchewan romantic
As well, tough to find anything within 3 hours driving

Could hop the boarder and go to Glacier National Park in Montana, a bit more than 3 hours though and travel the sun to sky highway
    Sig nuked by mod.

Yah, we aren't really romantics at all haha, just something that isn't Motel 6 on the side of a highway is good enough for us haha. We have done Montana before so not really interesting.

The only reason we are looking at a ranch experience thing is because it's something we have never done and can take easy. We traveled the world together already, and continue to do so, so looking for something low key and quiet for a change. So far the consensus on Saskatchewan is as I expected haha, asked some co-workers as well and got the same answer. I was hoping maybe a cabin on the lake somewhere or something like that.

Waterton, stay in the iconic lodge, take the boat to the USA end or do the Crypt Lake hike.
    Will fuck off, again.

Airbnb a whole house in some small town.

I've done Glenwood and Drumheller and both were fun. Romance is about spending time together, not about the scenery.

"staycation"? Fancy downtown hotel for the weekend, spa days together, etc?

That's a good one. Did a great staycation downtown and did all the touristy stuff, Calgary tower etc. Even pretended to be out of town and asked the concierge for restaurant tips.

Despite us both living in this city for 30+ years at that point.

I was just going to recommend this. Had colleagues get engaged there and they rave about it.

I know some friends from the hat who love going to the Patricia hotel because its not the normal vacation http://www.thepatriciahotel.ca/
No where "nice" in Saskatchewan is within your driving distance unfortunately.

Sounds like you’ve done everything within a 3 hour drive from Calgary.

Don’t know what your budget is but you can fly into Tofino within 2.5hrs and stay at the wickinininsh there. Probably my favourite romantic destination.

Thanks guys for all the input. We settled on going to Bar Diamond Guest Ranch, something my wife suggested for us to try, so we settled for that. Just something different from our usual. http://bardiamondguestranch.ca/

I do like the input in this thread and will check out some of the other places you guys mentioned on subsequent outings! Thanks all.
