Default Facebook marketplace for selling cars?

Before I suck it up and sign up for facebook again, just curious how the marketplace is? Is it quite active? I'm finding that kijiji doesn't seem to have the same amount of traffic it used to... which makes sense, at least on facebook you can usually screen out shady people from their profiles.

I cant imagine it would be as successful as kijiji, but it might work, with cars its more about having the right person see the ad more than anything else.

Definitely has more traffic than Kijiji in my experience. Tried to sell a set of rims on Kijiji recently with no luck. Posted the same thing on Facebook market and it was gone within 24 hours. I also assumed that using Facebook market would deter lowballers since you can see their profiles, but that was not the case.

For a common "commodity" type car it's probably fine, not sure it's the place for enthusiasts cars or anything rare or special.

I've been facebook groups before and they seem to have a lot of traffic, but in those facebook groups I could never figure out how to get the newest ads on top lol it always seemed to be random posts... haven't actually tried out the marketplace yet but my wife showed me that it has a section for vehicles.

I don't know about cars, but from what I've seen, people seem to love overpaying for stuff on the Facebook Marketplace. The marketplace is full of overpriced garbage listed for barely any discount from new, and if the comments are any indication, people will be salivating over it. Cars is one thing I've never really searched for on there though so it might be different, I am not sure.

Tried to sell a few diesel trucks and accessorys on FB. Waste of time imo, FB marketplace is so full of armchair appraisers and broke ass losers with nothing better to do than place negative comment on for sale posts. Plus, I found most buyers were not willing/able to travel to see my item. But of course YMMV.

Yeah, try it out. Whether it's Kijiji or Facebook just ignore the losers and delete the PM's.

The worst are all the accidental "quick replies" you get from people with fat thumbs. A constant barrage of "Is this item still for sale?", and "Im interested in this item"

I've had the best luck with vehicles through Autotrader actually. I completely forgot it was a thing until I needed to sell my brother in law's Dodge ram because he got posted overseas. Facebook sucked, and kijiji was full of scams and people from the NE trying to get it for half the price you posted it for and berating you when you refused their offer. The three people that showed up to test drive it, and ultimately the buyer, were all from autotrader. I think you can post 1 vehicle at a time for free or something like that.

EDIT: Lol at the negative rep and "Don't be a douche comment". Either it was someone from the NE who tried to buy it for half the price then got mad at me when I refused, or someone from the NE who doesn't like the reputation of their area. Either way, we both know its true.

Haven't used autotrader for years now. Seemed to really fizzle out when Kijiji took off, might have to try it out again.

Kijiji is for people LOOKING for something to buy.

Facebook is people passively seeing shit.

Facebook is fucking awful. Their marketplace sucks, their search is so bad its mind fuckingly blowing, and half of the people contacting you are natives (just ignore those).

But it can work. And if you strictly use it for marketplace access, it may actually be better than having shit on a profile you care about.

yeah if you do FB just do marketplace only, not the groups, that way people cant comment publicly, they can only Pm you, although that is really annoying with people who fat finger the interested button and it messages you.... if someone sends the canned "is this still available" or "i am interested" or whatever, i just respond with "yes" 9 times out of 10 they never respond again because they fat fingered it the first time and didn't even realize it until you replied to them.

The one issue I've had with FB Marketplace is that people don't realize they can refine their search area to only show items local to them, and don't bother to check the location even when it's posted right in the ad. I was trying to give away some shelves and just wanted to post it on a local group, but FB forced me to add it to the Marketplace as well so I got 200+ messages instantly, a lot of which were the canned replies or people asking where I was located.

Once you delete the item or mark it as sold it automatically sends a blanket response to everyone who messaged you which is kind of nice, but even then I had people replying to that, pissed off that I didn't respond before getting rid of the item.

I highly recommend it. I had an older gentlemen at work suggest it to me when I was selling the truck because he just sold his wife's vehicle on there after struggling with Kijiji. Since then there have been 2 other people on my floor at the office who have sold vehicles on auto trader after no luck with kijiji.

I've always had decent luck on Kijiji. Sure at times it has taken a while (1 month to 2 months) but not bad overall. Best was when I sold two of my FIL's cheap'ish vehicles ($3K and $7K) in 2 days. Then that got beat when I sold my dad's $75K vehicle in ONE day (priced aggressively compared to other Range Rover Autobiography's w/ low km's etc). Ironically, I haven't had that much of a luck with my own sales, at least not my higher-end vehicles. Bikes and cheaper cars have been fine.
