I thought I remember seeing more empty stores than stores with lease signs. I'm thinking there will be a decent number of stalls opening up in October/November for the Christmas shopping season.

Right! Of course. Or "Frosted Mink" if it's a Toyota. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Really though, how many ways can they come up with to say "Preferred Colour of the Elderly"?
I have a "gold" Toyota and a "gold" Honda.
I now feel like a elderly Asian woman, however feel the resale value of both just went up.
"A trip to the New Horizon Mall makes for a lonely, if not slightly post-apocalyptic, experience.
The mammoth mall was billed as a modern, international bazaar with an Asian flavour, opening quietly this summer just outside Calgary, south of the CrossIron Mills megamall.
But of its 517 retail units, only nine — less than 2% — are currently occupied and open for business, despite the mall being open since June."

"The mall was supposed to hold its grand opening event late in October. That event has now been pushed back to an undetermined date in 2019."

Plot twist: New Horizon buys back all the space that they sold for pennies on the dollar, leases out at next to nothing lease prices and short terms, mall becomes successful, sells those spaces again for even more $.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I never really understood small stalls like these. Like, I never went into one and wanted to buy something because they're typically so niche and expensive. When I go to a mall, most stores I frequent are places with lots of selection. It would be cool if the mall featured a lot of stalls just filled with vending machines of various types; that way I could see it being popular and unique.
I hope they get things sorted out, that food court could be so amazing...
The stalls absolutely have a place in a mall. Lots of unique / hand made / Etsy type stuff could do great somewhere with traffic. But you need balance as well. You need anchor stores to drive people to the mall. This place just tried to do a fancy expensive flea market basicallyThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I believe similar scenario is already proposed earlier in the thread but by private owners instead of New Horizon management. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
BTW, can anyone get a mortgage to acquire these spaces or are they deems too risky?
I would rather go to Crossroad than New Horizon. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
New Horizon is too sterile.

That would be pretty awesome if they could pull that off. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The developer (Torgan) already holds 1/3 of the space and can't lease it out due to the all the privately owned stalls being held by "investors". Once some of these peeps are driven out and more of the stalls are flipped to actual operators, the mall will start taking off. The mall itself is doing just fine now since all the empty stalls are still paying their monthly fees to Torgan. I think owners are paying $1.25 - $1.75 psf / month in CAM... ouch! Should've put all that $ into MJ stocks

Im glad to see this place postponed the grand opening. We went there last week and theyre not even close to being ready for a grand opening. I think i seen a couple stalls being set up but most were empty and or with lease signs, theres also no food places either and that to me would be the most crucial part. We went into a kids clothing store and $50 for a pair of chinese no name runners was quite a nice surprise lol I feel bad for the first round of guys who opened
Me and my buddies all thought the exact same thing lolThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

It’s starting to pickup guys lol
I'd pay em 100 bucks to recreate the Blues Brothers mall scene in my Mustang
New oldsmobiles are in early this year!
Wait .. so, why don't they rent out parking space at least for now? Say $100/spot/month ... good business! Rather than EMPTY EMPTY EMPTY ...

The mall was on the Breakfast TV news this morning, they said they will have 40-49 stores by end of the month? And it takes 2 years to fill the place up, just like what happened to the first mall with same concept that they opened somewhere else.
Just waiting for a hawker center and Uniqlo and I'll be there every weekend!
