Trump is trying to get Canada to drop some of its tariffs. Tariffs are a tax on the domestic consumer. Ergo Trump is trying to get us better pricing on things like cheese.

Trump and Trudeau have created the most ridiculous state of US-Canada relations probably since the White House was burnt down. LOL

We should act like a little bitch that we are and lick Trumps shoes for scraps.

The irony is that Trump is doing what Democrats can't in their wildest dreams and set a minimum wage.

    EDIT:
So basically the only difference is 75% US/Mexico content, 45% of parts will be built by $16 min wage staff and 16 year deal with review in 6 years (right at US presidential election cycle). And violation only incur 2.5% tariff, so there is really no incentive for automakers to follow any of this and just pass the 3% on to consumers.

    Well played, Mexico. Well played.

It also doesn't really hammer home enough that it's a deal that was rushed through because the current president is on his way out and they have a short timeline to get what he wants done, which is a big ask considering how Congress can move, even with their own election looming. It's basically a way for him to say 'fuck you' to his successor who didn't want them negotiating anything before December.

While I agree with Trump and lots of his policies, one thing I'd like to say to him given the chance would be this:

He rails about Canada and our tarrifs and how we've "taken advantage of the USA'. Notice how the 30 to 40%(even higher at times) DISCOUNT that Canada gave the USA on oil mostly from Ft Mac for years, almost a decade, is NEVER brought up. Should WE not be complaining about that? Where is the fairness is selling our oil at such a cut rate and discount to the Americans for years. Anyone can look this up, it went on all throughout the 2000s and after part of the 2010s. Huge, massive discount to the USA, worth 100x what Trump has complained about us "screwing" them. I'd like to see how Trump and the USA would address this fact...

'Canada's oil is dirty. I wouldn't pay anything for oil with sand in it. You try to put that oil in a car you're going to ruin it. Canada should be paying us to take their oil.'

Americans make more money destroying engines for entertainment than actually using for "use". This is the new American economy, millennials destroying stuff.

Warning: Cringe factor for car enthusiasts.

Apparently the average car worker in Mexico made $4/hr, so the new $16/hr floor is going to be one hell of a raise, but most likely they’ll replace a lot of people with robots.

There are plenty of places that would love our oil, we just cant gt it there.... (northern gateway? West/East pipeline?) Sure our oil is worth less than the "Texas intermediate crude" you hear about in the stock market segments, but its far from worthless, just takes a little more to refine.

All that means is parts industry in Mexico will take a hit from growing. As long as 45% of parts are made in US/Canada, this goal is met.

Also, this is even tougher to enforce. Are they going to pull apart a head unit and see if how much electronics is provided by which country and ask each factory what they are paying their staff?

This is the key point that everyone is missing from this story.

We might actually see an end to the dairy cartel thanks to Trump. Probably cost us a couple billion payoff to the farmers.

I don't even care about the pricing. The problem is we get inferior product for more money which is fucking ludicrous.

Just picked up 10lbs of Tillamook cheeses while I was out in BC, went across the border for a morning, I'm set for the next year
