Default Fatal motorcycle crash at Castrol Raceway

    https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/mobile/c...nton-1.4078224

No details on the crash but if you know Castrol, most likely lowside or highside and then slid into one of their hundreds of concrete barriers.

I have no problem racing a caged racecar there but I always thought it was a poor track for bikes. Not much runoff room on the first half of the track.

My husband has raced his bike there in the past, he’s not a fan of that track because of all the barricades. he knows the guy who passed, he’s upset and plans to attend the funeral once details get posted.
it sounds like it might have been the last corner where he crashed.

    RIP, taken too soon.

Jesus just terrible. Worst I've ever seen at Race City was two broken legs and I thought that was pretty bad. RIP.

Yeah the barricades there are too close. I suspect this could be the beginning of the end of Castrol.

What? This is the first death ever at the facility, which is actually quite incredible when you think about how long Castrol has been operating.

Unfortunately, injury and death is part of any extreme sport. RIP to the guy, but I don't see how this can be blamed on Castrol in any way, shape, or form. The guy chose to go out there and race. I've rolled multiple cars down cliffs, into trees, and into ditches. Shit happens when racing.

Guess you missed the fellow that died at the entrance to the carousel the first year the road course opened. I was racing that day.

Oh wow terrible. Yeah definitely wasn't there for that one. One I saw (guy ended up living on my street years later) he came off in the carousel and went into the divider wall.

I'm not blaming anyone. Sucks to have it happen to anyone doing something they love to do.

Guess I work in an industry where site would be shut down, a safety assessment would be conducted.
List of fixes needed to bring it up to better safety. Then we all know where this goes in Canada.

100% agreed. You guys are crazy to say this place is unsafe, this was the first death in i think they said 20 something years since opening. Deaths are going to happen in extreme sports unfortunately. RIP

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

The road course has only been open for 5 years. They actually moved the barriers back after the first year because it used to be a lot tighter. Like I said I have no problem driving a caged racecar there but after hearing about a rider dying there I am sadly unsurprised.

Damn that sucks.. At least he was doing it as safely as he could on a track, but it's an unfortunate danger of motorsports. RIP

Yep, thats unfortunate - but one of the realities of motorcycle riding anywhere - you can high side and land on your head and die just the same anytime.

Its not always the tracks' fault - unless they have something like highway wire cheese graters for barriers and the rider gets decapitated.
