There's oval racing in drumheller this weekend.

Just trying to get the word out, if anoybody has nothing going on and wants to take a roadtrip for some good old roundyround... come out to dinosaur downs (info on facebook), me and a bunch of buddies are running claimer cars, we've built like 12 cars in the past 2 months....

$15 for adults, free 12 and under, they allow outside food and drinks (no booze) but you should support the track, its run by a non-profit, the drumheller ag society.

I need to get into this.....Anyone here do this at all? I did a bunch of research, joined some groups, its big in BC and northern AB has a decent site set up and all for the stuff I'd be interested in doing (mini stocks) but southern AB has very little aside from the hobby stocks it seems......

Well that was an afternoon well spent. It's really too bad there weren't more spectators as it was very good grass roots racing. First time watching dirt live and it's crazy good.

Oh and I reached a milestone of sorts today, not sure if it's one to be proud of or not - had a waitress in a restaurant question me as to whether or not I wanted the regular serving of the meal I ordered. The other option, yupp, the senior's serving size.

It was a great weekend of racing, i was running the #21 claimer... Me and my brother have built a dozen cars over the past 2 months, all of the cavaliers/sunfires as well as the 2 pt cruisers are our cars.
My car (won the feature on saturday and both heats sunday, ended up with a tire down in the main so i didnt finish.)

What as really cool is that a 14 year old girl won the overall claimer class for the weekend followed by a 15 year old boy in second and a 14 year old boy in third place.

Glad you liked that! (i wont tell you that we agreed to let the kids have the trophies, technically the top kid placed 4th, still respectable, she's a minicup driver, she's second overall in those) Happy to hear you stayed for the trophy presentations

Cool. Yeah it was kind of weird with the trophy stuff - we were sitting in our chairs watching everything and decided to get up and go down to the fence to talk with some of the racers and were quite shocked to see that almost every spectator was gone. Kind of disrespectful IMO. Will most definitely return next year, this is why a track that's publicly accessible is needed near Calgary - great racing and bringing people together from all over who have a common interest. Doesn't sound like any other beyond members made the effort to go out to these races, too bad really as this type of racing is what keeps the sport going.

we hope to have over 30 cars next year, i used to race these at racecity 10 years ago, i talked a couple of my old buddies from racing to come out and check it out, now they've got the bug and will probably be building a few cars.... earlier this year this class only had 3 cars, me,my brother and my son built a dozen cars in the past 2 months, now its actually worth watching!

Bumping this up again, we'll be back out there again this upcoming weekend, hopefully the weather is decent, there's a derby at noon saturday, racing at 3, then racing at 2 on sunday
