Ive been buying cheapest possible studdable winter tires, driving them for two winters, and then selling on kijiji for 80% of my cost and buying brand new again. Been doing this a decade and it works out to about 100 bucks a year to have tires that are brand new or one year old at most. And studs are a must for me, those January ice days are brutal. Also I think Ive driven RWD for 6 or 7 of those years lol. It was manageable and fun drifting everywhere, but being able to zoom away from everyone at lights with AWD is just better.
This sounds a whole lot like shakalaka's car situation.

    Except for the finances, yeah.

Hard to say... That has to be the most copied tread pattern in the history of winter tires right there! Fucking near every tire company has had a version of it at some point.

Are Nokian still exclusive to Kaltire? Need some new winters this year and thinking of going studded for the first time ever.

My other option is Blizzak DM-V2s being just under $800 installed after $100 costco shop card rebate for 235/65/17.

    hmm...decisions decisions.

Yeah man, they are still exclusive...

If you don't want to wait in a 6 hour line at Costco and don't want to pay a crap ton more money, deal with a local company who takes care of their clients well, drop me a PM...

I haven't bought tires at Costco in years, but don't they have an online appointment system now to avoid the lineups? If I recall correctly, they force you to book online.

Looks like I'm keeping my 135i over the winter...I'm excited to see how good (or bad) it'll be. My options right now are using the almost brand new Falken Eurowinters that came with it OR going with cheap STUDDED Zeta brand tires?

Last winter, I bought a set of cheap Maxxis ArticTrekkers for my 370Z and I drove in a snow storm from Airdrie to downtown without losing control once. I highly recommend this brand to anyone looking for something cheap, I thought they were from China but they're actually from Taiwan, and they sell them at OK Tire as well as most indie shops.

Shouldn't you have a Sponsor thread somewhere in this page? https://forums.beyond.ca/forums/50-Marketplace
I don't see one and it would be a great place to ask you questions to gain from your knowledge. I wonder if some of the sponsors in there are even sponsors, anymore? It's not an active area, by a long shot.
I wanted to pick your brain about the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2. (Which is NOT a winter tire, so I should shut up, here).

My 235 did fine for 3 years on performance winters.

Ya but he's not an "M" driver. M drivers are better winter drivers. JD Power & Associates said so.

I’m sure that limited slip differential made all the difference

So, if after reading this thread, I've nearly maybe concluded that studded Hakkas are the right choice for my wife's school bus (and Costco doesn't seem to carry a single tire in the size needed), what would a local company - that I'd love to support - offer as an alternative?

That is why it is easier just posting in here honestly... I am a sponsor for sure but so many people miss anything posted in the sponsor section and since I am always answering questions for people who post here anyways, it just makes more sense to stick to the wheel and tire section as it is virtually all I do. People can always PM me or e-mail me with specific questions as well.

Depends what size you have. Not all models are made in all sizes. Hakka are good for sure, but they are not the only good tire. You either drink the Kool-aid or you don't and I am not ever going to tell anybody they are wrong. It isn't my game. I just try and listen to what people want and offer them tires I can get that do those things.
