Let's talk wide low profile tires...I have a 2009 370z currently on Nitto Motivo all seasons 245/40/29, 275/35/19, I drove it last winter on bare pavement days down to -10 ish with no problems, I've been debating whether to get winter tires this year, should I even bother? I understand that for this size of winter tire they're basically useless anyways in snow, so I may as well save my money... I'm only driving from my completely flat neighborhood in airdrie to downtown Calgary and not when snow is in the forecast. The Motivos have maybe 75 % left.

The problem is when shit flies and you are already downtown and need to get home. Think of how the stretch between Crossiron and Airdrie gets with the wind blowing over the road. You will be the guy causing a 10km line behind you and nobody in front at best, or rubber necking with you in the ditch at worst. That car needs something more than all season performance tires for a downtown winter commute from Airdrie.

Had a g37 with blizzaks in that size, definitely not useless. Not sure why you think that. Night and day.

Are you talking about driving in actual snow though, the reason I say useless is because there's so little tread to begin with, no channeling...

I've thought about this situation actually.. and my plan would be to just take the bus back to country hills and have my wife come get me haha

Winter tires in that size are definitely useful and will be better than all seasons. The people that say they are garbage are comparing them to narrower taller tires - obviously they won't be as good.

That being said, if the odd time you get unforseen snow your contingency is to just take the bus, then definitely don't buy them. That's a pile of money to have tied up in tires that you won't use if the car is in the garage most of the winter, IMO.

It's the difference between not being able to stay straight on a flat driveway without sliding, and driving all winter in real calgary snow, hills, going to the ski resorts, etc. Rubber compound is more important than tread.

Just keep the Z parked in the winter. Less salt getting all over it.

Anyone use good year assurance all weather as a year round? They held up good? Online reviews say so.

I'm going to wait until Saturday for the DD I think. It's on "performance all-seasons" right now, and I'd need to move the just-washed summer car outside to change them.

Had the assurance tripletread previously and they were good in slush and rain. Still not amazing on ice, but okay for an all season.

    Thanks slow.

A gf of mine can’t afford two sets so this is a compromise I found for her (Ltd options for her application). She’s a safe driver and with awd, I think this was best.

Can’t wait to test out my fresh set of blizzak ws80

Speaking of wide low profile winter tires, they are expensive! I was thinking winter tire couple year ago, for the size I need, ~$700 each, (21 inch) so with installation will be $3K+ so I didn't do it, last year, I downsized to 20 inch, and took a chance to try those off brand, (Zeta Sport? something like that ) with full set of nice gun metal wheels and tires, was just $2K, and so far so good.

Going to be dailying the BRZ all winter and picked up some Blizzak WS80s in 215/45/17. Since this is my first RWD in the winter, looking for some advice and others' experience. Daily commute is from Whitehorn to downtown for context.

You picked arguably one of the best tires on the market. No advice really unless you are a terrible driver.

Just ordered Nokian Hakka 9 studded for the wife's van, getting them mounted on rims next week. Not ready to install them onto the van just yet.

Fuck it, put winters on both cars today. It’s getting cold for my delicate hands.

I did the same, the weather looks terrible this week and we have a road trip for Thanksgiving, I’d rather not risk it.
