My son wants a Go pro for his B-day coming up in a few weeks.
Is local pricing better than online...
Where to start shopping ?
thanks.

GoPro 7 is debuting this Thursday (Sep 20th), watch for GoPro 6/5 discounts soon, if not already happening.
BB will match Amazon (as long as not a 3rd party seller).

So they should be able to match HERO5 Black which is historically low for this model @ $329.
NVM:
BB has set the same price:

As to Hero 5 Black vs Hero 6 Black vs waiting for Hero 7, it's up to your son to take advantage of the extra function/options.

Also, this Karma drone comes with GoPro 6 Black + Gimbal for $800 just 2 weeks ago. I wonder if BB will honor this price now since it's now back to $1199.

Heard some people has luck keeping the gimbal and camera and selling the drone to other Karma owners as back ups.
BTW, for gopro video footage, make sure they are stabilized either by a gimbal or EIS. Stabilizing in post takes some time even on top spec PCs and sometimes have weird effects.

All Hero line has been replaced by Hero 7.
White = 1080p
Silver = 4k30
Black = 4k60 with Hypersmooth
Starting price is now lower for the 7 black than 6 black.
And not dragging along a gimbal is a bonus.
Not a gopro but I bought this for my daughter last year

the new 7 black 4K60 w/ hypersmooth looks really impressive
Costco has them and they come with a few goodies as well
A lot of the GoPro copies are very good, even better in some ways - worth a look at least. GoPro's are grossly overpriced for what they are - a tiny 1/2.3" sensor (same as what's in your smartphone) with relatively poor image quality and few options for $500+. You can also buy third party accessory packs that have everything you could ever need for like $20 even if you do get a GoPro. Depending on it's intended usage (i.e. do you even have a display you can watch native 4K/60P back on or a computer to process it?), just something to consider.
