    This is

A ticket is exactly what you described... lets you into someone elses place and allocates a spot for you to sit. And I think you are confused about what market price means.
    You’re missing the point.

They are limiting the market you can get a price because they don’t feel the ticket is yours to re-sell. Imagine not being allowed to sell a car you bought without going through the dealership.

They're not really limiting the market directly, what's happening is that by selling/buying on other platforms, you run the risk of getting scammed much easier. Since Ticketmaster controls the access, it is the only platform that can certify authentic tickets. Once it sells, all old copies of the ticket are useless, and a new one is issued to the new buyer, as long as the entire transaction is within ticketmaster.

On any other platforms there are so many holes out there that allows scams to happen, which makes it less attractive to both buyers and sellers.

Id say its more like you are signing a contract for that seat for a period of time. Less like a license and more like a two hour lease.

I think it's within their right to say that that contract is not assignable.

If Ticketmaster didn't own stubhub this wouldn't be such a big deal.

And for anyone talking about market price, we'd need to see every single ticket for sale on ebay with a $0 starting bid and no reserve to truly see what the marketplace priced tickets at. Instead we get high ticket prices from one sole source, who facilitates second hand sales through scalpers at absurd prices of their choosing.

if the marketplace though these prices were fair, there wouldn't be so many discount last minute second hand tickets for sale.
I can eat more hot wings than you.

Great, then it's no big deal, since eBay owns Stubhub haha.

And that's the trick. If you DGAF where you sit, last minute tickets, where supply outweighs demand, are an amazing deal.

What I still find laughable about the whole ordeal, is when a band boasts "Sold out concerts!". Yeah. No fucking shit, scalpers bought them all. Meanwhile 1/2 of the nosebleeds are actually empty during the concert.

As long as TicketMaster/LiveNation require exclusivity in everything from ticket sales to promotion to venue control, I welcome regulation. It’s not even close to a functioning free market.

Stupid Questrade... charges me to buy AND sell my ownership in companies! What a scam! I should be able to sell my shares to my neighbour on a piece of paper if I want! How dare they limit my potential!

Would be quite a story if Questrade blocked people's accounts who tried to resell their shares for a price higher than they paid for them, while allowing other sellers preferential treatment to do to the same thing in greater volumes.

If you don't like questrade there is a healthy competitive market for your business.

Just took a quick look at Saddledome concerts, the biggest draw is Keith Urban right now (WTF) and the prices are hilarious across the board for the same seats.

$132.25 CAD Sec 117 Row 8 via Ticketmaster
$243.60 CAD Sec 117 Row 5 via Ticketsnow (Owned by Ticketmaster)
$141.08 USD + Fees Sec 117 Row 5 via Stubhub (Owned by eBay)

Definitely non functioning free market, fucking Ticketmaster undercutting everyone else!

Also depressing, Calgary's getting passed over for Edmonton by Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake and Shawn Mendes. That's in the next 6 months. Fuck we need a new arena.

Correct me if I'm wrong but ticket Master sells a ticket in everyone of those scenarios

And the problem is? It’s their ticket to sell initially.
