I use "right" but not in the "Right???" way. More like "yes, i follow, continue what you were saying".

also, anecdotally i have noticed more old timers using "my bad" more often now.

Crap, I had to look up the usage of right and clutch. Guess that's why I'm eligible for Ihop's senior discounts!

speaking of repeated ending letters, the worst is when people say "okkkkkk" in a text. i always read it as like a sarcastic/reluctant okaaaaaaaaaaaay but some people just genuinely use it as a basic OK.

That “right” thing caught me off guard a few times like 6-7 years ago. It’s got to stop, but I don’t see that anytime soon as it allows instant confirmations of feelings and enthusiasm. It’s quite a millennial thing.

Instead of “Yes, you’re quite right”, it become “RIGHT?!”

Working in a high school, I'm privy to ALL of this shit! The amount of colloquial terminology that emerges as fads is appalling. I have students constantly saying, "That's so lit!" or, "Ohhh...Salty!" The fire saying is just as bad too.

On top of that, I have a handful of coworkers that constantly reply with, "Right?!" I thought it was bad with the students but to consistently here teachers say it drives me insane!

Oh well. To be honest, we all have gone through a stage in our lives where we have had our own vernacular. Oh and another one that kids were saying more last year than this was, psyche. I used this AGES ago when I was in junior high and I asked one of my students what it meant and he came up with some really weird answer that had no relevance to it whatsoever.

I do get a kick to see what the next fad word is going to be and it is amusing to see just how many kids are using it. It's equally as amusing to see just how quickly they get discarded. But again, what drives me to absolute head shaking is seeing my colleagues use them just as regularly and readily as the kids do.

    Yeeet!

New slang isn't a big deal to me probably because I remember growing up in HK with these fads yearly off pop culture.

I am 48 and don't give two fucks what anyone thinks of my speech or vocabulary, and I will say "my bad" or "hella" or "sick" or "fuck off with your bullshit" and if someone doesn't like it, that is okay by me. YThey don't have to say those things and they don't have to listen to me so if they don't appreciate it, I am sure they can find someone who is trained in classic English to help lower their blood pressure.
