Default Average speed cam article on CBC with link to Beyond!

Read a CBC article this morning about speed cams. There was a link to a 'popular driving forum' so I clicked it and it opened a thread I started on beyond last year about speed enforcement.

Anyway, CBC article is below for your viewing pleasure.

Why don't they just put GPS trackers on all the cars?

They have these in Japan tied into the toll gate infrastructure .They also have incredible highway rest stops with a lot of restaurants and other attractions. So people still drive far over the limit, but pull into a rest stop for lunch or snacks, then continue on eventually through a toll gate. At first I didn't get why we always stopped for coffee and food on the highway at these places until my brother in law explained the toll gate recorded your plate and time so the average speed could be calculated between two gates. Also Japanese being Japanese figured they would speed, the burn the time to eat, then carry on.

Their speeds are ridiculously slow though. I found I was doing up to 3x the limit on Hokkaido and it was normal Canadian highway speeds

Nobody drives the limit there , they just speed and use the gained time to do something else. One of my friends over there calls the speed limits,"teian", or suggestion.
