It fits everything my mother in law needs, but is twice what she's willing to spend.
Requirements are: CD player, Aux-in (or bluetooth), small, sounds good, not ugly, under $300

The CD player is the tough part.
What about getting her a Prime membership for Amazon prime Music? That is the cheapest way to get a streaming membership and it probably has most if not all of her songs. Or some other kind of music subscription? If you use it too for example, a family plan is only $15/mo and you can add her as one of the 6 people / 10 devices. Then you can just pick any Bluetooth speaker that fits her budget, of which there are many excellent ones for way less than $300. That only works if you and/or your family will use it too though. She could also pay $10/mo herself if she likes the idea.
You could also convert her CD's to MP3's with little effort (unless she has hundreds) and she can still use just Bluetooth.
There are knockoffs of the Bose Wave but they don't have a CD player: https://www.amazon.ca/Immersive-Comp...ords=bose+wave
Or what about a nice set of small active bookshelf speaker(s) and a standalone CD Player? It will also sound a million times better than the Bose and there are lots of options.
You can also get those "compact min-systems" that still have CD players in them for next to nothing, but I don't know if that would be considered ugly or not - something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Panasonic-Comp...ords=cd+player
I've also seen lots of people with these in their kitchens, but they are probably not nice enough for what she's looking for - price is right though: https://www.amazon.ca/Sylvania-SRCD2...ords=cd+player
