Default Residential parking question - how far from corner?

Guys, maybe someone can clear this up for me. In a residential area, and not near any stop signs or fire hydrants, how far from a rounded corner can you park? And more importantly, HOW and FROM WHERE is that distance measured?

See pic. Let's assume I want to park along the curb that I'm standing on while taking this pic.

Okay, but on a practical level, how am I supposed to know where the property line is?

    Good question.

My parked car was hit by a fucking school buss parked near a similar corner to what you've pictured. Buss company was fucking around implying that I was parked too close to the corner and therefore they weren't liable for all the damages. Quick trip to the cop station to file a police report and after talking with my insurance company if you are stationary (ie: parked legally, parked illegally, parked in the middle of the road) and someone hits you they are 100% at fault. This was confirmed by the cops experience (obviously not his call on insurance issues) and the insurance adjuster.

Back to your question I asked the cop about where and how the distance was measured and he didn't really know if it was from the start of the curve, end of curve or somewhere else. So basically its just a bylaw/parking issue which as noted above is vague AF, right?

I'm sure parking bylaw fucks people around on this issue all the time if someone complains, is that why you're asking?

That's a good question. I don't go all Spock when I park near corners but personally I just try to envision myself as another driver making that corner turn and whether my car would be in the way or not.

I find it more annoying when big trucks and/or trailers park super close to the corner because I have to edge out way more for vision when making a left turn.

Remember that fuckery about that article where this person was loading groceries into their car and the door was open, someone pulled into the spot and hit them and the shopper was at fault? I think it was TDMM that made that call.

I don't know if it's official but looking at the picture, take 5M back from the middle of the curve where he wheelchair ramp is built into the cement???

I haven't yet been fucked by this issue, but I could see it happening. I also often park near that corner, and others like it, and have never been able to figure out what's a legal distance.

We do have at least. One busybody old lady that calls parking enforcement in my neighborhood, so if I'm illegally parked, I will for sure get tickets.

I would aim for 5 meters back from the sidewalk, picturing it extending straight out into the road from the left in your pic. That should be more than reasonable.

Yep. Lowish car combined with work trucks and vans that park right on the corners makes for a sketchy exit in the mornings. Pretty ignorant.

From the close edge of the sidewalk, the far edge, or the middle?

And that can't be the real rule can it? Since especially in this area, lots of sidewalks are set back from the street with those strips of grass (as seen in pic), so this could vary by 2m or more.

With a big enough truck or trailer, even fully legal parking impedes vision pretty badly. I try not to do it often, but sometimes my travel trailer is parked ass-end towards a corner like this, and I can guarantee it blocks your view.

What about corners like these with the sidewalks set way back? In these pics the sidewalk is ~3.5m back from the road.

Well your 2nd pic the car is in the absolute wrong as they need to be back 5m from that stop sign, so they could be reported.

We all know the reason for the 5m length but people are just oblivious.

I'll take a better picture and see if I can explain myself. I don't mean distance from that stop sign, I mean distance along the other curb.

Is this a trick question? You can't park anywhere near that. It's kid's play zone. Please think about the children.

My truck is 19'. 5m is less than that. Easy enough to judge

Aha, I knew I'd seen that here before, that's what I was thinking. 5m back from the closest part of the sidewalk regardless of boulevard size because, as stated above, it's to give the people on the sidewalk a clear view and space. At least that's my interpretation. Excessive? F yeah! Will you be ticketed for being any closer? Depends on the the mood of the person with the ticket book and how tired they are of the busybody's calls.

From that picture, I'd guess that the sewer drain was the closest to the corner you could park.
I can eat more hot wings than you.
