Just dropping in to apologize for being so late getting my giftee taken care of! With the last few weeks being such a clusterfuck I completely got sidetracked. I am going to be getting everything sorted out this week...

I received my gift! I will post a picture soon here, but my Santa got me a brilliant piece of Damascus steel for my knife making hobby! I am quite pleased!

"A very pleasant man with a beard" (according to my wife) dropped mine off yesterday. It was an awesome Case Amber Bone pocket knife! Also a nice note about making sure I work the knife and it doesn't just sit on a shelf. Very thoughtful and personal gift as I am an avid (yet terrible) hunter and this beyonder has a thing for knife collecting.

Mine is sitting wrapped in front of me waiting to be dropped off. Just waiting for the kid to go down for his afternoon nap.

I had my Secret Santa drop off my gift last night. Again, a very nice fellow showed up at my door, and we had a great conversation. Opened my gift to find a Silk Road spice set and a 6 pack of Gentleman's Stout and a very nice hand written card. I think I am going to bust out the smoker on Monday and test out the rubs and drink a few beers. Loving it!

Definitely thanks to jwslam for setting this up. It is a shame there were not many participants this year because these type things are always a blast! Hopefully next year it will catch on more...

Why was participation low? Do you think it's because of my timeline being too early?

I think the open ended price range scared away some people, or at least one.

perfectly understandable. I know it gave me pause, I didn't want to look like the cheap fuck, but, I dove in anyways. It is the spirit of it and if someone, in the end, didn't like that they got a thoughtful gift on the lower end of the "baller spectrum", well, tough shit.

I was given Tirebob, and spent a lot of time and effort into finding something that I knew he would like. Is it baller? hardly. But I was able to source what I thought was a nice gift that I thought he would like, and didn't break the bank. I think all told, it cost me ~$50. I spent that little bit more to get him something I thought he would appreciate. Having said all of this, I could have spent the $30 min and gotten him something nice too, but he is also a personal friend.

I don't think anyone was expecting to pay more than that, or that anyone was expecting to get a gift worth $100+.

My secret santa specifically said that he combed through Beyond looking at my interests and such, and that alone was worth it to me. The fact that someone put some real effort and thought into finding something for me was worth more than any monetary value of the gift I received.

    M. Night Shyamalan plot twist: this is all just a clever ruse to get our personal information on file for future Beyond CSI crime or dispute solving. JWSALM is beyond's keeper of the greatest vigilante data set.
Probably this... The way that it was organized feels a bit like you're harvesting everybody's personal info.

harvested info allowed me to make pairings like this, whereas elfster would've assigned a random that you may have nothing in common with.

I might have given that argument credence if it was some unknown trying to put this together, and jwslam hardly fits that bill. He has also put together some pretty large group buys on here where he got lots of info from too. If there was anything nefarious going to happen, it would have shown up from that.

    People are too paranoid sometimes.
