I used the magnetic base. Prepped the surface properly and it is fine so far. Not anywhere that wind can blow it away.
So far in this cold no issues. I'll get pics in the morning. Same setup as Russo.
Need to add second cam on other side of house.

Cameras aside, has anyone given much thought to a self monitored more traditional head unit type system?

Been using my old ADT system just unplugged from their monitoring service which has been fine but I think it's starting to shit the bed on me ( it wont stop beeping no matter how many times i clear the reporter fault which usually works ).

The Samsung smart things just without the monitoring a good system? are there really many competitors? The nest one is ok but i kind of like having a panel i can control it with rather than the stupid pedestal.

Are you guys' Wyze Cams still holding up OK in this -28C weather?

My one outdoor Wyze cam is doing surprisingly well, no issues in the cold.

No issues here. I’ve seen infrared pics of these cameras in colder weather and the camera stays mostly above 5°C from its own heat.

Perfect - I don't think it gets much worse than this so it looks like it passes the winter test.

i came across this product which is pretty interesting:
    https://www.safebyhub6.com/

Basically its a hub that you plug in to your old/existing alarm system that allows you to self-monitor. Really useful for people like me where you move into a house where the old owners had an alarm system and it's already wired and ready to go. Or i guess if you previously subscribed and canceled it.

Pretty neat idea but unfortunately limited support for now only working with DSC and Honeywell systems. Hoping they release support for my old Brinks system that i have.

Wyze just announced a home sensor / monitoring system!!! Cheap contact motion sensors built, IFTTT (Hopefully connect with my Hue's??) ... Now to see if we'll get this in Canada.

You can only order via the iphone app. $20 USD for the 4x Sensors (door) + 1 motion.. that's cheap as fuck compared to the market (RING, $299).

    Damn that looks awesome.

Quality products that work well and have a polished app at an extremely reasonable price - who would have thought that would be attractive to people.

We should get them in Canada if they go past the App ordering process, especially since Amazon Canada sells the Wyze Cams against Wyze's wishes here.

App didn't let me pre-order, it stops me when selecting a province only let's US states.

Fingers crossed from Amazon, or might even be worthwhile to get some to Montana and make a trip (group buy).

If it’s anything like the nest security system it will be easy to be had from eBay within a few months of launch.

so for Wyze Sense to work you need to have an existing Cam v1, v2 or PAN?
but then you can control this only from the mobile App?

Does anyone have recommendations / experience with cameras that work with Google Home Hub / Lenovo Smart Display?

I'm looking at this pair for cheap.

Emailed them about Canadian availability for the Wyze Sense, apparently (which I kind of already knew/ heard / was discussed here before perhaps) but Wyze on Amazon.ca or any other than USA is not authorized?

    They responded the following:

So hopefully whoever is selling on Amazon.ca will bring us the Sense hahaha

Welp..1 of 2 wyze cams outside are done after the blizzard we had last week. Contacted amazon for a replacement and bought some housing for it.

Noob DIY question, but can you just screw these into the vinyl siding of a house? Or is it better to do it on the soffit roofing area right above? I initially used outdoor mounting tape, might go with screws this time...not sure.
