I am interested but the h22 is an interference engine and the timing belt usually goes at roughly 130-150k kms and the pistons crash into the valves and... well I don't need to go on...

if your willing to fix the rust and make it as perfect as it can be for an 18 year old car the prices coming up on bringatrailer.com have been on the higher side.....but you would most likely have to list it no reserve.....

Answer a few questions:
2001 SE model
about 130K, silver, leather, MT, moonroof, AC, all that jazz
Completely stock, save the stereo, which I still have.

Timing belt was done around 110k


I just replaced the struts this spring. Guys at Balance Auto did it for me.
I have a set of new brake pads I will be changing if I have time.

If it doesn't sell at a decent price now, I will deal with the rust next spring. cutting a welding is probably not worth the money.

I agree, I doubt it will 'go up' or have much more value. It's certainly not an ITR.
I don't drive it much. More so now since I started biking to work now.
Never winter driven. Which sucks that it still formed rust on the rear wheel well. Had I know when I was younger, I would have pulled that rubber pinch weld 'seal' off and applied a real seam seal sooner.

Wow. Guess that is probably about in the ballpark the 4500. Sounds so low. We sold our 2001 Prelude SE back in 2011/2012 with 75,000 kms on it and got 10K for it, maybe 10,500. It was also manual. Had a JDM front end on it and an exhaust but that was about it. Actually I think someone off here bought it. I agree they might be worth more down the road but I think that would be really down the road, not sure you want to hold onto it that long. I know I wouldn't mind one of the late 80s early 90s preludes now.

BTH, 6 years later $4500-5000 does not sound unreasonable to me. I would be more than happy to sell it for $4500 to 5000 right now. But to have a car sit around and hope it goes up in value would be stupid. I already regret keeping a few years longer than I should have, especially since I hardly drive it.

Anyone who knows preludes knows that the rear wheel wells is where they always rusted (on this model)-you will know a serious buyer because they are going to look there, our car even had some and only had 70,000 kms and was also never winter driven. I chalk it up to them still being made in Japan and their shitty paint.

Bring a trailer doesn't work to well in Canada unless you have some uber rare or high end vehicle. Trouble is 98% of bidders are in the US and they hit an absolute brick wall with the thought of buying a Canadian car and having to deal with importing/shipping/US certification. Some people selling on BAT in Ontario and Vancouver areas have some better luck as there is a large pool of potential US buyers close by. My experience saw my vehicle got about 1/3 of what similar vehicles were getting located in the US, and mine was a US vehicle until 2011.

Had a 2000 Honda Civic, one year older than our Prelude and 60,000 more kms and winter driven every year for those ten years. No quarter panel rust. Actually, no real concerning rust anywhere.

Since you mention that, we also had a 2000 Civic that did better. Made in Canada was better perhaps.
