Emphasis on the +. Like we'll ever hear "OK, Olympics are paid off so we'll stop collecting the extra $25/year"
Recently had Scott Hutcheson, Chair of the Calgary 2026 Bid Corporation, come into our office and do a presentation. And apparently, he was trying to float the idea, that if Canada "won" the Winter Olympic games, while hosting, that we would host every 4th winter game in Calgary, to get that constant reinvestment going.

Oh he didnt mention the time line. I was wondering how long you would have to pay more to cover 5 Billion in an olympic games bill.

This hasn't been part of any public proposal that I know of. HOWEVER, if it was, and the details were transparent, I think there would be a real opportunity to reduce the average cost of the games down to something pretty close to sustainable.

Say you did something like this
    Year 1 - City A
    Year 4 - City B
    Year 8 - City C
    Year 12 - City A
    Year 16 - City B
    Year 20 - City C
    Year 24 - City A

Use the same facilities 3 times in a 25 year span and then be out of the cycle for another 25 years (or more).

Well exactly. They are banking on something that IOC will fight tooth and nail because it would destroy their corrupt kickback machine. Don't count on it happening until not a single country bids for Olympics. I thought we were at that point, but wow, a whole bunch of places proved me wrong and tried to bid anyways.

Older (2016) but interesting article on the IOC. So of the bid amount for these potential games in calgary how much has the bid committee outlined would go to the IOC.

A vote like this is exactly how Springfield got the Monorail.

They won’t be able to. If the no side bins by a single vote, the provincial and federal funding disappears. Even Mary Moran isn’t a skilled enough liar to get council to think they could fund the entire games themselves. I do think that there should be a full audit of every single penny that BidCo has spent, with the amount of effort they have spent to deceive people, it wouldn’t shock me to find out Moran and friends have taken payouts from groups who want the yes vote
Well great. Mary Moran is back in charge at Calgary Economic Development. Sigh.

Nenshi doesn't want to give the Olympic bid money back to the provincial government. He's probably already spent it on expanding his Nenshi Towers or an additional blue ring.

He needs a bigger blue ring to fit around his ego.

Are we so rich now that we don't know what to spend our money on? There should be a cooling-off period before such a concept can be brought forward again after it was voted down. Maybe a Decade

While everyone thinks it's going to be Calgary, I bet it's going to be in Edmonton this time if NDP wins next election.

Calgarians will pay for it and get nothing out of it, like Rogers Place.

We should split the difference and hold it in Red Deer.

Extremely doubtful. They don't have the facilities.
