Default Bring SAN HDDs across the boarder?

    Hi guys,

Got a business trip coming up to the states, and we have a SAN down there with 24 x 2.5" SSD disks that we don't need in Denver, and could use in Calgary. The guy down there is pretty useless and getting him to ship this is a nightmare, so I was wondering...anything prevents me from putting all the disks into my carry-on and just bringing them back with me? I am only going down for a single night so my carry-on will be mostly empty. Anyone foresee any issues with this? I am already bringing down 24x blank fillers with me, but that's just plastic so I am sure no issues with going there, it's bringing the drives back that makes me wonder. Worst case scenario I will freaking escalate it and get them shipped, but figured since I am there and have the space it would be so easy and quick to bring them over.

If the company is an American subsidiary of yours, and you have some documentation that states what you're bringing back (formatted drives), its not a big deal.

Going to the US isnt the issue - but coming back with 24 hard drives (SSDs) can make the CBSA ask questions - even if blank. They will want to see that you arent stealing data or moving unboxed drives across the border for reselling purposes.

You'll almost certainly be asked about the reasons and contents.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Yes, it's a US subsidiary of our company. When you say documentation, what kind of documentation do you figure I would need? I don't want to make this overly complicated, so if it's going to be too big of a hassle I won't bother, just wanted to hear opinions.

You'll want something official-looking from the head office that says 'employee X is bringing in to, Canada some empty drives for use in Canadian operations' - these drives are for temporary use only and will be shipped back to the US'.
Bring proof of employment as well - paystub or emails on your phone.

Otherwise, the CBSA could give YOU the bill right then and there to pay for duties and taxes on the drives that they just estimate the value of.

Just put it in a Fedex box and ship it as used equipment. Office to Office.

RMA sticker with $1 ship value. Live dangerously, it will make it.
    Cocoa $11,000 per tonne.

Yah think I'm just going to ship it. Was always hesitant, so just going to shop em myself when there. Thanks. So next step.. Assuming I don't ship em as rma like mentioned... How would one? How does one give value for something that's bought across the boarder but for our own company operations down there. Normally we order all our equipment in the states for US operations and from Canada for Canada, so never really had to ship stuff across. Later on we will need to ship a whole shelf with Sata disks as well, so trying to figure out how one goes about this as we never had to do this.

    Thanks
