Default 2013 Acura TL SH AWD 6 speed manual

Taking a look at a 2013 Acura TL SH AWD tonight. Higher highway kms. Decided I don't want or need a truck at this time with gas prices and parking etc. Can rent one for the odd track day if needed. It ticks all of my boxes on paper. I love my Accord 6-6 but don't like how overpowered it is for fwd on icy roads and also want 4 doors/awd for practicality. What do I need to look out for on a higher mileage SH AWD? J series V6 is pretty bulletproof as long as oil changes were kept up but I've read about oil consumption issues, prop shaft noise and other things. I've never owned an AWD vehicle. Help me out!

This is in addition to the 6-6?

I'd be trading in the 6-6 end of an era

I've got an RDX SH-AWD, and I've read it's important to maintain (i.e. change fluid) in the rear diff. I would look for any service records on that.

Either way, it's an 11/10 better car than your accord. Will be a bit slower probably, but then again so is everything else on the road

The main Achilles heel of them was the auto trans, pressure sensors need to be changed semi regularly(I still have some new ones sitting in my garage)(at least I think the 2013 it was still an issue). If you get a 6-speed you'll avoid all that.

Thanks all, I'm going to miss the beast 6-6. It's truly a gem of an engine but this is like the big brother of it. 310 hp vs 278 hp awd vs fwd 5.2 0-60 vs 5.6. Looking forward to slaying all winter in the SH AWD.

I've got a 14' TL SH-AWD but with the auto. The auto transmission drives me nuts which you don't need to deal with but no problems with the rest of the car. Enjoy!

Oil consumption issues. It’s well documented in the J37.

I had a 2010 manual TL, if you want that 5.2 you have to dump the clutch at 5k with traction control off.

It’s actually quite quick for its size. Don’t burn your clutch though, it’s a heavy car.

Reason I sold mine was because hondata didn’t have a flashpro and didn’t plan to make one.

Otherwise I would have built a 400hp NA Honda.

I considered the auto until I read about it being 1 second slower 0-60. That's a deal breaker for me.

Glad you saw this post! I don't plan on modding it beyond maybe an intake/cat back XLR8.

I have a 2010 auto, great car for the price and easy to work on. Did my first timing belt on it and changing fluids is cake. I don’t mind the auto because I’m too lazy to shift. Has good power for the size but nothing spectacular. Big comfy ride.

It sounds like my 9th gen accord except with AWD and 4 doors. The 6-6 has a fairly firm ride which I don't find objectionable. I've read a few complaints about the firm "sporty" sh awd ride. But I think that's coming from the 45-60 year old target demographic for Acura.

What's this inside joke on the Accord 6-6 I keep seeing everywhere?

To add, the TL has an amazing seating position and is very comfortable.

I’d get 8.2-8.4L on the highway and city I DGAF. Honda has the best induction note. You’ll like the car.

The Accord 6-6 is a very serious performance car. Banned from drag strips across North America.

I average 8 L on deerfoot daily commute and 10 -11 city in the 6-6. So really, I'm not going to lose much MPG. Just have to run 91 vs 87. Cool! And yes, the j-series scream is addictive.

    Fair enough. Lol.

True story, best ever was my ‘92 built D16 before I boosted it.

Forged internals and 7200rpm. Stock manifold and exhaust but skunk2 manifold and short ram intake.

    An just amazing hah

Finished test drive. Acura TL SH-AWD feels like an accord 6-6 had sex with a BMW. Exactly what I was hoping for ! 6 speed shifts nicer than accord. Heavier more positive/shorter feeling throws. Think I'm gonna bite
