Default URGENT Volunteers needed - Charity casino for school council - Nov 27-28th

Looking for some assistance to fill slots for a charity casino for my kids school. We have until FRIDAY THIS WEEK to fill these slots or we will be forced to cancel. We would not get another chance for approx 18 months. For those who don't know, casinos are THE major source of fundraising for many charities, including the parents council at my kids school. My wife is the treasurer of the school council, and according to her, without this funding, the school will need to forego the following for the next two school years. Drumming residency, Inline skating week, Outdoor skating week, supplies for the maker space, Eco Outdoor School as well as $1500 in funding per classroom for field trips and supplies.

No other type of fundraising can replace this money. This particular school has a high population of new immigrant families who don't have the literacy or numeracy skills to fill these positions. My family is already filling 4 shifts for this casino.

Shifts are on Tuesday November 27th and Wednesday November 28th, and many of them are overnight shifts. I know this is difficult for people to schedule, so as an added enticement, anyone from beyond who volunteers can have me volunteer at a charity event of their choice OR have me babysit their kids while they have a night out.

Check out available shifts and sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0...23a1f49-casino

if you would like to sign up but need more information or assistance, PM me and I'll help you out in any way I can.

If a group can't fulfill their volunteer commitments, then there is a very real risk of that group losing their casino dates.

Yes, it's a pretty high stakes situation.

I’ll donate $50 if you volunteer dressed as a blackjack beauty go go dancer girl that they got on the weekends.

I’m too much of a loyal patron there, think it’ll be a conflict of interest for me.

Couple of parents like that at our kid's school, and yea, can't expect them to hold a simple conversation let alone volunteer for anything.

No conflict, as long as you aren't part of the "voluntary self exclusion program" even regular gamblers can volunteer.

The $50 is worth a lot less to me than getting more shifts filled. really each shift is worth something like $4000.

A lot more than couple here. It's a very diverse neighborhood. I've chatted to a few parents at various events, and I'd say we are something like 50% either severe low income or recent immigrant families.

Also, you simply can't play while you're volunteering, which shouldn't be a problem. If it were, then you have slightly bigger problems to worry about.

Technically I think you can't play during any of the days your charity is operating the casino, so that's 48 hours you can't. Although you can play at any other casino.

well, more shifts have been filled, and my family and friends are now taking 6 shifts, so we are very close to good here. Most urgent need now is for someone to take a cashier position from 6:45 PM to 3:30 AM on Wednesday Nov 28th. Cashier is actually pretty fun as you are chatting with people and paying out winnings. People are usually really happy to talk to you, since only the winners have to come back to the cage to get the winnings. No experience needed, there's assistance right beside you all shift, and training is provided.

It's bad luck our charity got the mid-week dates, which I know are tough for people who work the next morning. If the casino falls on the weekend, the teachers usually volunteer too. As stated before, I will volunteer for the charity of your choice, or babysit your kids if you take these shifts.

There is a flames game that night too, so it should keep you busy!

Good luck ExtraSlow, it is nice to see you try so hard but disappointing that the school is having so much trouble finding volunteers. Casino's are great at raising funds. Our kids school moved to casino's and 50/50 at hockey games a few years ago because fund raising was performing so poorly (same issue with lots of immigrant families that for some reason don't volunteer) so the idea was it is easier to do one event a year. As payment for volunteering you get reserved seating in the front two rows for the Christmas concert. Even though the school is less than 50% white, volunteers are 99% white (usually one Asian guy) and so the first two rows of the Christmas concert were reserved and basically all white people. I joked to my wife about how bad it looked and sure enough there were a ton of complaints to the school for racist treatment at the Christmas party lol

Well, it is a smaller school too. Only 194 kids.

Anyway, doesn't look like any beyonders signed up, but between my extended family and one friend, we've filled 6 spots, and it looks like we have enough that this won't be cancelled now. Still one open spot on the sign-up sheet if a beyonder wanted to have me owe them a favor, but it's not nearly as urgent now.

That makes it difficult for sure. We have over 1000 students and still have problems filling volunteer spots. And it is always the same people volunteering.

Glad you were able to fill the spots. I would've helped out but this month in general just been crazy busy between travelling, work, and home life.

I've volunteered for alot of these in the past (>15 times) for the Calgary Chinese associations and senior associations and I actually quite enjoy them. I usually go for the midnight count-room position and love counting all the $$$ and see how much were spent at each table and whether the casino made or lost money that night. I remember one time the casino lost $120K (table games) for the night because some guy won big at the baccarat table. In between I would grab a snack and watch people pay craps. It was tough getting home at 345am just to wake up at 7am again to go to work...

Good luck next time when you get to do it again.

I volunteer for a few groups for these casino events, and I've done nearly all the positions. The count room is fun, but the hours are a bit of a killer if you work the next day. Did cashier this time, and one dude cashed out over $28k. That's a lot of brown bills to lay out! I like handling the chips a bit, so cashier is nice that way, although it's so boring when you aren't busy.

If anyone needs me to volunteer for their group, shoot me a PM. I'm a helpful guy.
