    Default Trans Mountain Project Reconsideration

There was tons of talk about the September ruling of Trans Mountain in most companies Q3 results. Currently there is a push for reconsideration and part of that involves "Oral Indigenous Traditional Evidence" hearings. Yesterday the firs session was in Calgary with 6 different Tribes speaking including Tsuut'ina, which is all broadcasted on the NEB website.

Did anyone else listen in? If so what did you think about it?

What are the predictions on the projects outcome this go around?

I said it the day it was 'approved'. It will be never be completed.

I don't think a major pipeline will ever be completed in Canada again, that isn't currently under construction.

Would that statement also cover Conservative majorities? They seem to think they would have the power to push things through (or at least that's what their supporters are suggesting)

Well there won't be a federal conservative majority for at least 5 more years. Probably longer.

At that point it won't matter anymore.

Pretty apparent you can’t push projects through anymore, they’ll just get kiboshed by the courts

They would have to change legislation as the courts only interpret laws.

But there wouldn't be an appetite for that, even for Conservatives, because of the potential Political damage that would follow.

And considering the last time the Federal Liberals got ousted it was over a measely 1 billion dollar gun registry debacle, and a few million in adscam dollars. I'd say this latest 60 billion dollar shit show will not be taken lightly.

As for Conservative majority getting pipelines built, it seems the Liberals aren't afraid to table legislation that would make project approval near impossible, so there's nothing to stop Conservatives from presenting legislation that does the exact opposite. The question is whether Conservatives will stoop to the Liberals level or not.

In any sense, there isn't any question that a party supporting oil will have a better chance or likelihood of getting projects built, than a party who vehemently opposes the oil industry and Alberta in General.

The crazy lefties who have such strong environmental priorities that it clouds their common sense will never vote Conservative anyways.

If the Cons get in, they better pass legislation and ram construction through ASAP. The swing voters will have forgotten about it 4-years later and perhaps by then voters will wake up to the massive deficit / debt the Liberals accrued over an economic growth cycle.

This could be very good or very bad. Hope the gov. Allows private $ without too many hoops to jump through. Undoubtedly, more delays will follow ffs

Haven't lots of people suggested this purchase was to be sure it's not completed? Could you imagine???

Why do we continue to bend over for American companies?

Just make this shit provincial as its supposed to be and it will get built.

To your first point, it's owned by a Crown corp (CDEV). Which means Canada.

To your second, inter-provincial pipelines are federal jurisdiction and regulated by the CER.

Cold Water Indian Band sees this as nothing more than a source of income for themselves in terms of legal battles and "compensation for the wrongs". It got to the point where Transmountain was considering going around their territory all together as it would have been cheaper but then the band lobbied the goverment to not allow that as it would mean huge losses in tax revenue and right of way compensation for them. What that article doesn't state is that Transmountain (and its predicesor) pays for all the legal fees and any environmental consulting the Indian Bands want, so every time these clowns go to court they are doing so with Transmountains money despite complaining that they are being ignored.

They've also been visted several times by the CEO and the feds were out there touring around like 2 months ago so not sure why they are claiming no one is taking them up on their offers.

Its pretty frustrating to constantly see articles about how all these natives are "getting fucked over" along side reports of how wildly overspent the pipeline is when the natives are a huge reason why its so over spent. At the very least it would be nice to see those idiots do something with the funds like Lower Nicola does and create businesses to help support the project and create a little prosperity for the community instead of the council just squandering it away.

What a frustrating project. Hopefully they can get the line filled year and we can actually start seeing some benefit to it as opposed to just constantly hearing how much its "hurting" everyone.

This is a great post, and a reality that some folks just choose to ignore.

The Feds honestly need to step up their auditing game with bands across Canada and get this shit sorted out. A lot were afraid to open up their books, doesn't take a Mar to figure out why.
