What happens most often, in my experience anyway, is they are riding on the shoulder but they can't ever seem to ride in a straight line, so as they move about side-to-side, cars get scared of them and either slow right down (blocking everyone behind them) or make a dangerous pass. What you end up with is a giant hazard slowing down dozens of cars. It's made worse if cars are also parked on the same street. It's really bad on Elbow leaving the DT core. When I go that way, without fail there is a cyclist adding 10 minutes to everyone's commute.
The biggest failure of the cycle track network was not fighting to get the 5th St lane extended to the River Pathway system (because subsidizing parking for people is more important, and they didn't want to fight the CA on getting 5th St turned into a southbound one-way between 17th and Elbow again.

I also take issue with Elbow Drive being considered anywhere near the 'DT core' but that's just my own problem.

I'm fine with giving them space. The only question I have is in regards to filtering (which is still illegal). If they filter next to me, am I now obligated to change lanes to go back around them? I mean if I'm on my motorcycle, I'll have more room to play with in regards to 1m, to go around them, but that could potentially still be a lane change.

Agreed - its just safer to find other alternatives. I would rather ride slow on the pathways with peds, than risk it with vehicles.
Barely anyone bikes to work anyhow, I find once you get out of the Sunnyside area there's hardly any peds or bikes on the pathways.

And we can stop pandering to a tiny minority of losers who need to grow up and stop riding children’s toys to work.
Based on your many, many responses to this thread, I can only guess that's you've previously been molested by a cyclist. I'm sorry you had to experience that.

I can see how you think that, most cycle commuters definitely fit the profile of a molester.

And just this week some woman on her bike has decided it would be a great idea to ride on Macleod trail at 6:45am during rush hour... yup that is so enjoyable.

Considering the bitch on 12 st in a shitty buick that decided she was going to blow through the right-turn only and go straight through and try and wack me yesterday.... Ya, it's always the cyclists fault right? Lucky i didnt put a foot through her window

It's actually more accurate to say that there are both stupid cyclists and stupid drivers.

Lets just take the cyclists and drivers out of it and just say stupid people

Yep. The awful minority is always the "public representation" for what feels like every demographic.

A bad driver behind the wheel of 3000 lbs of steel and metal is way more dangerous than a bad cyclist who mainly poses a risk to themselves.

To be fair I'd say both are a majority haha (bad drivers as well as bad cyclists). Seeing a good/courteous one is a rarity on both accounts.

As someone who has been cycling more often... there is no winning. I try and follow the rules... then 9/10 times some soccer mom yields to me... which just slows down both of our commutes.

I do tend to stick to side streets, paths, and bikes lanes though. It’s very easy to do in this city. Pathways attract a special kind of stupid pedestrian though. Can’t even count how many times i’ve said “on your left” ....to have them move to the left “no! Your other left! Fuuuuck” :into the grass I go:

Bikes should have registration/licenses plates and insurance like the rest of the vehicles on the road.

I ran into this issue on the lime scooters. I've always worried about being a terrible pedestrian around bikes, but man, the amount of space two people side by side can seemingly take up is ridiculous. I've also had cars in front of me (while I was driving) stop traffic to let a bike that was acting as a vehicle, cross the intersection. Everyone, including the cyclist, was super confused as to why they did that.

I think most people just need to relax a lot more when they're behind a wheel. When i'm biking, i'm doing it the best way I can to not fuck with anyone, in hopes that they don't fuck with my day (as i'd royally lose in that case). At the end of the day, i'm just trying to get home as well and doing it a different way. Not sure why people go out of their way to affect someone else, like blaring a horn passing a single cyclist who is as far over in the shoulder as possible, with no impact to them at all..
