75 gone from PETRONAS Canada (formerly Progress Energy) last week. Each department sounds like they had to shed a little bit.

Lots of cash being burned on their plastics facility. Plus the Kinder Morgan acquisition earlier this year.
The money pit that is Jordan Cove is also burning up cash.

Doesn't it hit the news if it's over 50?

Only if they are all from the same place. I'm guessing it was a mix of Calgary and field.

Thanks guys, I'll have to really 'up my Networking Skillz in the New Year. It's never a good time to not be working but between wedding and baby talk, plus finding a new apartment in a few months, it's an added challenge for sure.

Really sorry to hear that man. I will be sure to pass along anything I hear of but it’s pretty skinny out there.

Updated my resume a couple weeks ago and wondering if there is anything else to help make it stand out. Considering more of these pretty-looking templates but for a professional role as a Geologist, I can't tell if it would help or hinder things. So from an HR perspective, does it matter? Examples:

    https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/7390...e_feat_1&bes=1

    https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/6823...e_feat_4&bes=1

Pretty sure your goal is around content and how AI-readable it is for hot words. Nobody is even gonna look at it if the computer filtered it out based on missing hot words.

IMO you should always keep your resume standard, especially with big companies - some companies use software to screen resumes and you don't want to risk yours to get eliminated just to make it look pretty. Mine is just a standard MS Word template.

Also, there are lots of free resume templates online, you likely don't have to pay for one if you go that route.

First eyes on your resume are a machine in 90% of companies. If you can't pass that hurdle, nothing else matters. Don't get too fancy with formats or anything that makes it less readable by antiquated software.
My test for that is to cut and paste into wordpad, and if it isn't readable there, you already fail.

Have you tried Jobscan? That's a decent first pass test for machine readability. Although, don't focus on that to the exclusion of everything else.

The biggest issue I have with pretty resumes is it really cuts down on the number of words you can get on page 1 of your resume ( the only page that will ever be looked at ).

This is a concern if you are trying to get good project or role descriptions in there which may not matter to a computer but I think are super important for getting the interest of a hiring manager. Specifics on stuff like that gives way more insights into your capability’s and exposure that the standard point list of BS often hides.

If you were applying for a job in San Francisco I would 100% use one of those Etsy templates though.

Also whatever you use make sure it’s easily updated with Word. Worst thing is paying for a pro resume and you accidentally made a typo that you now can’t change. Heck I even think it’s important to tailor your resume to each company you are applying for so flexibility is important, because these days you are likely applying for jobs with a fair amount of variance in scope which will require you to highlight different things on each resume. I make a new resume for every job I apply for, from a base template yes but I would say I vary at least 10-20% of the content.

When you apply through job sites, all the fancy formatting gets stripped, when I view 99% of resumes they all look the same as they go through a resume system to format them, the things I care about are content, is it detailed enough to the position, does this person have tenure or do they constantly jump from job to job

I don't need to read a novel or the same thing over and over again, I've seen 9 page resumes that echo every detail that person did at every previous job just carried forward into previous and more previous positions
