And most doctors will in turn look down on surgeons because 'they're basically just mechanics' which also has them looking down on mechanics.

In automation things aren't really growing, but there is a steady shuffle of people. Basically company A hires a person from Company B, so B hires from C, and so on. After all the slowdowns and hiring freezes I think a lot are shuffling things to get their teams more in line with the skills they need but they're not expanding.

SMB are closing up around beltline due to taxes. Probably caused more unemployment. I believe 80% business think they are right sized and 10% want to reduce and 10% want to hire more. So basically it's going to stay put like this for a while.

But sounds like BMO expansion is a go and looks like we are trying to get the X games again trying to get some traction going.

A higher up at my former company who liked to treat people like absolute garbage and had shady business practices at best was finally given the boot. So much for always being "protected". I'm also hearing similar stories from other companies: small scale targeted layoffs or "strategic reorganization". A few sales guys being laid off and replaced right away but nothing large scale at least from what I can hear. Most companies are buckling down for Q2 and some are even looking at forced time off or salary role backs again in attempts to keep numbers.

weird. i moved to edmonton for a job, and even after people got laid off at my company they found something almost immediately. it generally feels like it's easier to find work here than it is in calgary

I laid off a salesperson last month... first time in 12 years that I have had to lay off an employee. I've done some terminations over that time, for specific reasons, but it's been a long time since I had to let someone go simply because business is slow.

The level of angst and uncertainty in this province right now is unreal. No one knows what's coming or what's going to happen and as such, a lot of people are not spending any money.
