In 2017 my company was bought. I was paid out and get a job in the new company. It was pretty much the best scenario that could have happened. There was months of worrying i was going to get the axe though.
Haha damn pretty lucky, I've rolled through 2 purchases and now going through a separation.

I'm in IT so I'm not tied to O&G, have just weathered all the storms for the past decade+ and have enjoyed working for this setup most of the time.

Has morale every been good at husky since like 2010? I think most people stayed there for their juicy bonuses. I've heard of 100-150% salary bonus for some management, like that's bananas. That's a perk likely going away at Cenovus.
I dunno, I worked at Husky for 7 years and I've never heard anything like that for normal employees up to VP's. They did have annual bonuses but more along the lines of 10-20% depending on performance. Pretty standard.

Morale wise, it's been a mixed bag. Husky sold all of the conventional stuff during 2015-2018 timeframe so there were lots of layoffs associated with the asset sales. With that said, people working in Oil Sands, Thermal, AsiaPac, and Atlantic were largely unaffected and I'd go as far as saying the morale was quite good all through the downturn.

It seems that people who complain the most about Husky either got laid off by them or have never worked there to begin with. Take it with a grain of salt.

Sounds like a pretty normal night in a box to me. Were you expecting to simply watch the hockey game?
Haha that was my exact thought

I don't think I've ever puked at the hockey game. But the rest sounds pretty normal. Get drunk and rowdy and security kicks you out so you go to the casino.

I dont know why anyone would do that with a 25% chance of getting massive money.
Musical chair tends to have limited seats. You may get a bucket of money but seat may have been taken by someone else already.

Or you don't get axe and get triple workload.

Now I'm sure the decision is tougher for staff that had a decade+ into the service. And people who are retiring or soon be retiring anyway won't care and wait for payout.

Is it even a night in a box if you don't get kicked out by security and then go to the casino after?

    This sounds much more realistic.

100% bonus is a fairy tale for anything other than C-suite jobs, law partners, consulting partners, and hedge funding/IB.

I also dont understand why they paid out the RSU/PSUs of all the cenovus employees. The cve symbol isnt going away, whether this is to give everyone a boost, or some other plan to change the way compensation is done in the future.
There could be a "Change in Control" clause. Tell her to read the details of her RSU grants. A merger could be considered a change in control.

    Typical Change in Control clause:
In the event of a Change in Control prior to the date on which the Participant is fully vested in the Restricted Stock Units, the Participant automatically shall become 100% vested in the Restricted Stock Units as of the date of the Change in Control. Acceleration of Vesting Upon a Change in Control.

It would be a very questionable program if it didn’t have a change of control clause.
