Doesn’t help that we legislate propping up unsustainable rural routes that are always empty.

The other issue is Canada isn't a top tourism destination for the world, Japan excluded, so to compensate for reduced revenues they increase taxes, it's definitely a catch22

Make it cheaper and they will come.
We do a terrible job at promoting tourism. Think of how many tourists know about the hall of fame at Winsport.
All we do is show pics of mountains and hope people plan something themselves.
    Gotta spoon feed the options.

People who care about things like hall of fame at winsport will come for that, people who don't will look for what interests them, a winter country doesn't interest a lot of people out there

Canada can be. But its how it markets itself and puts in the infrastructure for tourism.

Calgary is not a place where people stay when flying in. When I used to run a motel, most of our guests used to fly in, stay the night and head out to the mountains the next day.
We do have good things in terms of resorts, activities that are some of the best in the world. Its just how the infrastructure is and how it markets itself.

Calgary should build massive casino/hotels and use that along with the mountains to attract tourism.

Gambling and casinos in the winter
Gambling and golf in the summers

Literally the first fucking thing you said on the topic.

Then you double down on your shit plan for 2 pages before trying to walk it back when people point out your BS.

Now we are all the retards? With great grammar baked into the insult to boot.

    No bailouts. No cash hoarding.

    Best of both worlds

Who cares what the companies ask for, government should tell them to pound sand.
But don't ask oil companies to actually to pay their liabilities amirite??

We will just let the same people run rough shod over the OWA and then have the tax payers pick it up.

Imagine what the stock prices would be if there was real liability??

Absolutely ask them to do that, I have no support for those policies.

I’m proud to work for a producer with one of the top LMR ratings in the province. We have no need for anyone to pay for our abandonments.

    Says everyone till its not.

Little chicken little in my original comment. But the point stands. You work for a 'responsible producer' till you don't. I've heard the same from companies that are now OWA fodder. And then there isn't enough money so the tax payers now go at it. I really don't understand how the government isn't requireing at least 100% deposits on wells for abandonments yet. Well I know, because there wouldn't be drilling. So how different is the O&G industry than a government backed industry?

haha you just quoted exactly what I am still saying. I do not pity companies who dont have reserves and when shit hits the fan they ask for bail out. I have not changed my stance once. However, since bailout HAS been granted, regulations should be in place since tax payers are contributing to their failures.

I stand by my insult to you.

Sorry I kept editing, poor on me there.

Nah, i'd like a strong AER and a requirement to put up real abandonment costs to drill. But thats a pipe dream. In the mean time i'll make a killing on the end of life side.

But don't pretend there is a ton of companies operating right now that are basically hoping for someone else to deal with their liabilities. And yes your company may be there soon .. as with the companies there now.
