I was laid off and haven't found SIMILAR work yet
I was laid off and found a new job in the same industry
I was laid off and found a new job/career in a different industry
I'm still plugging along with the same company I've always been with
I quit my job and went elsewhere
We're all fucked

You make some fair points but it’s almost impossible to prove one way or another. Some people came out ahead for sure with Nexen sale, but is that better than losing all the good paying Canadian jobs to Chinese expats / people operating the company in China? Would nexen really be bankrupt right now if the Chinese takeover didn’t happen? How about if things recover? Now we would have a big Chinese company basically pillaging Canada without much long term benefit for us.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Anyways I’ll admit that was a pretty shallow blanket statement with no depth, but I stand by my point that we don’t know for sure if this was best for Canada as a whole at this point. Time will tell I suppose and as a Canadian I would love to see this in 30 years from now as a case study on how China got screwed back in the 2010s buying this shit company

My buddy who works at Nexen said the target was 47% G&A cut.
Lots of companies have been 'saved' by Chinese buyers who want a Canadian Laundromat, like Long Run. With every one I'm familiar with, the pattern is roughly the same with them coming in at the 11th hour and grossly overpaying for the assets without any due diligence. Without a doubt it helps people keep their jobs when times are tough (which is a net positive benefit IMO), but those same people usually start looking for jobs immediately and only stay around until they get hired elsewhere. The G&A penny pinching is insane, but they will throw money around like it's nothing at pretty much anything else, like other bad investments.
Buddy of mine said it was the best thing ever when Nexen got bought out, all his options vested immediately, then they paid huge retention bonuses to keep people around, and then when he finally got laid off he got a big severance package. At that time, the market wasn't even that bad and he got a new job in 3 months.
Looks like 735 Devon employees have a new home now. Anyone surprised it's CNRL?
They going to take all the people?
News release mentioned 735, I assume that's all of them since a lot went over in 2014 when CNRL acquired the conventional Devon assets. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yah for sure. I am sort of surprised they are allowing CNRL to become so big. At this point how much power does the AER really have over someone like them? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
A bunch of SE Sask CPG assets might end up with CNRL as well..who else? I've heard maybe Tundra, but it's a pretty large package for other players in the area.
CNRL has a saying, the assets will always end up in the hands of the lowest cost operator. And it's totally true. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Seems like only yesterday I was getting transferred from Devin to CNRL as part of a big asset sale. The more things change the more they stay the same I guess.
Eventually there will be redundancy to be found. I can't see them absorbing Shell staff and then Devon's. They just need to get the transition done and axe will come. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
What was the Shell staff transfer agreement? Isn't the employment guarantee only 2 years and it's already up?

They don't need to lay off and pay severance. People quit tgat company fast enough.
up next month i believe. i've heard through the grapevine that a lot of people are planning to look for other jobs when their salary/benefits get reduced back to CRNL levels now that the 2 years is up. i know a few people who also just straight up quit because they didn't like the culture change. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. From the 900 or so that Cnrl took from the first Devon transaction, there was nearly zero layoffs. It'll be same with shell and the 700 Devon people. Trust me, folks will just quit.
So CNRL also has CNUL do they operate that from within the wider umbrella of their organization or is that seen as a separate company? How many assets and employes would fall under CNRL at this point?
I thought Husky was buying Devon, I was wrong.
Who is left for Husky now?? MEG and DEVON are off the table.
