Thats a far cry from the 500-850 being reported. Is that Calgary only? I know guys at some of their plants that claim a pretty high number of guys got let go which doesn't make sense if you consider them part of that 212 number.
You're jaded. 200 is a lot of families especially when there's no equivalent job postings out there for most.
200 was the auto workers and that was national news with government reviews and stepping up to talk to the auto company.

BJ Services is getting out of Red Deer. They moved into the old Baker Hughes building a few years ago just off of QEII, site of the infamous Christmas Day 2015 front-end loader rampage. They are consolidating their assets to Clairmont.

Apparently Big Blue has moved all of their lab services equipment to the Middle East and just shut it all down here.

I never said it wasn't a lot of families and the impact wasn't terrible. I simply pointed out that 200 people being laid off was significantly less than what was report.

The gas-weighted Calgary company says it is also cutting compensation for its remaining employees and has lowered its 2019 cash flow expectations.

That's a do more work and also here's a pay cut.
Likely this company isn't around in a year unless gas prices go up and stay up.

Yeah, I'd almost rather be laid off in those in those situations. The market is definitely slow right now but companies are still hiring some to fill turnover of staff. A lot of people I know have all changed jobs in the past few months so seems like a lot of people are shuffling

They are already on the phone to Cona Resources begging them to buy them like Pengrowth. The board would probably take $0.07 with a smile on their face instead of staying around to watch it go to zero.

These two are more of a rumour than a fact, but I'll bet some of the other members can confirm or deny them:
    - Heard that Baker Hughes is closing their GP Completions and Thru-tubing operation completely and will service all jobs from Nisku now.
    - Halliburton is pulling all cementing and fracturing equipment out of Canada due to current low utilization and projected even lower utilization.

    - Probably related, heard Calfrac just picked up some stimulation work, and I'm guessing it's from the Halliburton job book.

Can confirm Halliburton for the cement operations. My BIL was notified a few days ago they are pulling out of western Canada, and are done as of December 12th. Frac side is still a rumour at this point, but they expect layoffs this week.

Huh, is that ALL cementing and fracturing in Canada? My source wasn't really sure. I can belive it though, based on my frank discussions with the bossman back when I used to work there.

It's shitty news, and it hurts, because moving equipment out of country is a long-term plan. Bringing it back is always tougher, and if it's getting even halfway decent utilization in the lower 48, it'll never come back. Kind of like our drilling rigs going south. Once they are gone, there's no strong urge to bring them back.

    Sigh.

Not oilfield but coworkers husband was maintenance crew for a steel company who had a plant in Ogden. Was told they're laying off start of December. Might be westman but am not sure.

125 let go from a staff of 690. That's rough.
