Default Best way to send wine in another province?

Not sure if this should go here or in the Food section, but I need to send a bottle of wine and a card to someone in Toronto as a thank you. I imagine a local (Toronto) service would be better than shipping something from Calgary. Does anyone know of any type of service that does this? TIA

Technically its illegal to ship alcohol across provincial boundaries.. much better off finding a local place to do it. Unfortunately not any help in suggesting a place in Toronto.

Interesting - I did not know that, thanks.

I found a place called wineonline.ca that operates in Alberta and Ontario that seems to be able to do what I want, but unless I want to send an entire case of wine the selection is extremely limited. Might still end up using them though.

Unless your looking for a certain bottle what about google mapping the nearest liquor stores to the person and calling them up? I know a couple of the liquor stores by my house offer delivery

That is a good idea too. They want it wrapped and with a card inside, so as long as that could be done your idea would work also.

I've sent liquor within Canada before via Fedex. It's against their policy however they had no issue coming to pickup a case of liquor (in a box that clearly showed it was liquor) and delivering it with no questions.

Turns out the timing was more urgent than I thought so we just used wineonline.ca. Thankfully one of the few wines they sold individually was the type and price point we wanted. Thanks anyways for all the suggestions guys, I thought I had more time than I did.

It was still listed as a "case" though so I needed to call them to make sure I was sending one good bottle instead a whole case of crappy wine

They just say that because there's a 95% chance the bottles will get broken by their bag smashers.

Word. Canada's (and the province's) laws on shipping alcohol are crazy. Online DTC beer, wine and spirits is basically a dead industry in Canada because of it.

Many websites still do it, many wineries as well. They're just shouldering the risk.

    ATS Healthcare is the best.

    http://www.atshealthcare.ca/index.aspx

They have climate controlled vehicles so the wine doesn't get too cold in the winter or too warm in the summer.

I have never actually used them with me being the shipper, but I receive wine almost every month via them from different wineries. They aren't as quick as Fedex/UPS but better quality of service.
