    Default Winter outdoor work wear

Looking for some advice on winter work wear..

My brother in law is being transferred to AB from California for work and figured for XMas I would get him started with some outdoor work basics.. Any suggestions?

It will be outside of Wainwright AB and I assume windy, since he is a windmill tech.

    Tks

Hit up marks. Carhart makes some awesome insulated jeans and Milwaukee has some awesome battery powered heated jackets that made my life moaning pipelines in fort Mac tolerable.

Not sure if he has specific requirement for PPE like he would in the oilpatch, but base layer is key. The Helly Hansen Polypro stuff at Marks is very good, as is anything made of merino. Good boots are also really crucial. Marks again is a good place to look for those, but it's important to know what the PPE requirement of his work are. I assume h needs the Omega "horseshoe" designation, but he may also require impact protection etc.

If he's required to wear a hard hat, a good hard hat liner is super important too.

Mark's is not the place to look for boots, they have very basic stuff. You'll get like 2 options from Dakota, and those Dunlop rubber boots. Bogg's are the best winter boot I've seen thus far, not sure where you can get them in Calgary?

Also, Carhart is decent, but it's big money because you're paying for the brand. You can get plenty of other options nowadays. Best bet is to find an offshoot workwear store and check it out. Viking makes a pretty sick work coat. -60 rated, and it is repels just about everything.

    That sounds absolutely terrible.

Everyone here is going to recommend dunlop boots and FR gear because oil patch.

The boots are good for sure. Especially if there is mud. There are alternatives. I like the tmax socks. Go for a composite toed boot.

Base layer. Flannel and synthetic fibers. Hard hat liner.

There's a lot of boots warmer than dunlops.

I'll likely leave footwear and anything PPE related for him to purchase (still not sure if his work covers it) Im thinking more towards the heated vest and other layers... Hes normally used to working in 40-60 degrees C, so a drop to -30 C will be huge.
