If you have no skills and money, I agree it's difficult. I don't think that's true for Beyonders. Although I will admit that I don't plan on moving my family to the USA. I personally find that less appealing than staying in Alberta.

CPP discussions, provincial legislation to prevent federal involvement in funding projects, a general rancor between the provincial leaders and the feds, provincial parties (NDP) openly talking about "re-branding" away from their federal brethren.

Separatism was never going to be a defined moment. It was always going to be about chipping away at how Albertans perceive Canada, and how much Albertan politicians were going to begin legislatively, judicially and constitutionally challenging the power of the federal gov't. Quebec has been doing this forever, of course, but they never had the economic capacity or true autonomy (economically and culturally) to pull it off.

The flashy parts of the process will be the odd constitutional crisis, or challenge. But separatism can also look like a deconstruction of the federal power-of-the-purse and more power to the provinces. Canada may look more like a Schengen Area - and frankly given that the country is shaped roughly like a piece of linguini, that's what we should be doing. No reasonable person would recommend a governance/democratic structure like Canada has today. The only thing that really knits Canada together is nostalgia. And hockey. And both of those are worth around the square root of one of my poops.

90% of Alberta's trade should be with the US. Directly. The rest of Canada should merely be white noise. Even shipping our good to the east parts of Canada can go through the US. Our current position is ridiculous.

Provinces are the problem. Worst administrative area in the country. No reasonable person would recommend a governance structure like Canada has today, but only a moron would suggest a solution is to give more power to the most incompetent and obstructive level of that structure.

Just to clarify, skills means specific post secondary and substantial experience with corporate sponsorship, and money means millions.

I've looked into this in depth and applied to immigrate (the approval took 9 years).
