I don't want to keep beating the Brian Jean drum, but I agree with him.

Kenney has failed the province, and that referendum is now personal. It will fail solely as a message to Kenney that people hate him. Which is only another failure of him to the province.

I have no idea why anyone thinks Brian Jean should be premier.

Is the candidate pool that shallow?

I think they are talking about the unbinding plebiscites

Is that the one where Joe Magliococca will have to lose weight? I'm voting yes to that.

In all seriousness... What makes him not a good option? Everything I read shows him to be quite decent and thoughtful on his approaches to politics and he seems relatively forthright and straight shooting. He has experience and is well studied as well.

I am not looking to say you are wrong, blah, blah blah, but in an honest evaluation, what would be his major flaws compared to other possibilities? Truly trying to think this out because it is realistically going to be our reality soon enough.

@Buster convincing all Canadians we need a country wide divorce better or worse for Alberta detaching from Ontario? Eg. Convincing bc to leave and join “cascadia” or whatever bs dream the west coast has

I don’t think I have ever heard a conservative pine for Brian Jean to come back.

Honestly. What’s the appeal of the guy? 3 term nobody CPC MP I’m fort MacMurray. Barely won leadership after the Daniele smith debacle got beaten by the NDP in Alberta, served as an MLA for all of 3 years before quitting to “rebuild his house” that burned down 2 years prior. He garnered all of 3,000 votes in a riding with under 45% turnout.o

Brian Jean is probably the biggest meme in Alberta politics lol.

I could see why NDP voters would love to have him lead the UCP, Notley walked all over the guy last time.
Same reason as last time you asked me that question lol

Winds change though. It still doesn't mean he doesn't have good ideas and can't capitalize on on new situation and do better for everyone as a whole does it?

I dunno... Harper really never did a lot for quite a while before finding his feet and I guess I am saying that this could one of those types of situations. That said, it might be you are 100% right, and in such a case, who would make a better candidate? I am trying to get more familiar with the nuances of this whole thing so my question is genuine.

He had a shot, did SFA with it and proved he has no real conviction, I don’t see why we would get excited about him coming back.

Like I said he’s a meme. People like to throw his name out there for some reason, but the guy has no actual substance.

Jean did take the smith wr and turn them almost into a legitimate government contender and that was to do with Jean as a leader. Certainty wasn't because of the wr caucus.

Id be less enthusiastic about Jean if there was someone more capable. But.... there isn't, at least right now.

The Smith WR WAS a government contender before she shot herself in the foot because she turned chicken shit.

We just have to be a nation like Quebec and all the First Nations the libs like handing those out like water… do not need to separate, Quebec has taught us that.

We just have to prove the rednecks and oil make us distinctive… i mean they have their own language, so that is the first step… lol

That's true, but he did manage to recover from that, i think he even beat whatever shit pc leader there was against notley before the merger.

The election is coming, and Kenney likely won't beat notley. So who can, and how do we get them there.

    Edit... maybe blinky

Rather than making the case for Alberta separation, focus on promoting to all other provinces what they could get out of balkanizing Canada. If it stops being “alberta is just complaining” and moves to “many provinces have a reason to look for other options” it could see more critical mass.

Where is the evidence of "angry at Kenney" = "will now vote for Socialist bread lines"??

I see what you mean. But why would Alberta care what Nova Scotia does

More provinces seeking their own interest could weaken the nationalist position and make for a more fertile political landscape / less controlled opposition to Alberta leaving. If alberta ever made noise about leaving Telford would be working overtime getting national outlets focusing all their attention to one province. More provinces making moves means a less focused opposition message.
